Happy Friday everyone!

We're getting some surprise lake effect snow right now. It was originally set to hit south of the city but the bullseye is right over us at this moment. They're calling for 4-8" atm. It sounds like a sloppy and treacherous commute. I'm glad that I have nowhere that I need to be.

Yesterday, I went to my monthly pain management doctor's appointment yesterday with x-rays & notes from the second opinion from another orthopedic surgeon. I'm now going to get a knee injection Monday to see if that helps with the pain. My hip is a **** show but maybe there is something to be done for my knee.

On a lighter note, my nephew's 2nd Birthday party via zoom was cute. Although, I question if he really is part of my family since he didn't want his adorable, ladybug cake.

QOTD: I always make a grocery shopping list and check items off as I go through the store. I used to add all types of impulse purchases. Now, I allow myself to deviate by adding one item if I really want it and it's not too bad.

B: Dannon Light and Fit Coconut Yogurt, Tangerine. TJ cold brew coffee, unsweetened almond milk, sf vanilla, stevia.

L: Leftover chopped salad.

D: Shrimp and ****tail sauce.

Have a great weekend, everyone!

HW: 371 SW(8/9/21): 324 CW: 217 2 lbs til goal of skin reduction surgery. I'm looking for a new surgeon.

Good morning QJB, another busy week. Still doing well, down 5.4 lbs since January 1st! 11.6 lbs to goal. Have not had a drop of alcohol and have been eating well with no grazing. Going to the gym this evening for the first time since we had covid. Paid for our cruise ( April 2-9) last evening, took us a while to finally commit. 13th floor Balcony room and I received an upgrade bid offer this morning, we may try to bid into the VIP/Haven as it is known on Norwegian.

QOTD - most of the time we have a list, we spend so much more money when we do not have a list and often duplicate what is already in the fridge and pantry.

B- Keto yogure

L - salami and cheese

as- cukes and ranch

D - unsure

I hate the TJ's won't join Instacart too! Every time I am there there are tons of personal shoppers, so I don't know why they won't admit its already happening.

Mornin' All!

I have to take my mother to yet another doctor's appt this morning. I swear this woman has more doctor's appts than anyone I know - at LEAST once a week. Is this normal for elderly people? Good Lord. I never noticed before because she used to drive herself - now that she's given up driving, it's on me. Good thing I'm retired, I guess...

Nothing else scheduled for today, although I have plenty of stuff to do. The one class I have that actually meets as a group (on Zoom) only has the main lecture on Mondays. Wednesday and Friday sessions are discussion and activity sessions that senior auditors normally don't go to, since auditors aren't supposed to participate in classes - just observe. However, this particular professor did say we can go and observe these WF sessions if we want to. Today they'll probably just be discussing the readings for the week. I may or may not go - but I'm kind of glad the WF sessions are optional for us. It wasn't clear on the registrar's list of course descriptions, so I've been avoiding scheduling anything on WF's at that time for the next couple of months - but this isn't going to be an issue now.

QOTD: I always take a list and usually stick to it if I'm at a regular grocery store (unless they're having a great sale on something that we normally use - like, you know, raspberries...) - but when I'm at Aldi's, all bets are off. I often leave there with ten items when I went in there for two. I don't know why I do it at Aldi's and not other stores - maybe because they rotate their inventory a lot (???). Anyway, things are more likely to catch my eye in there, for some reason.

B: light yogurt with a couple teaspoons of tahini stirred in, topped with raspberries (tahini because I need for it to hold me over this morning while I'm carting my mother around). Coffee with half & half

MS: nothing - I'll be out and about

L: I've written down (in MyFitnessPal) a Jimmy Dean's Delight breakfast sandwich (English muffin with turkey sausage, egg whites, and cheese), but I don't know..

AS: protein shake, protein muffin (not at the same time)

D: crab cake, coleslaw made with Chinese-style dressing

ex: as usual, some kind of cardio

this popped up in my Facebook memories the other day. It's from a year or two ago. Wild turkeys are a common site around this city and have been for the last ten years or so, but it's only been recently since they've started riding the city buses (or at least waiting for them, anyway!)

sorry to hear so many of you are getting so much snow today and this weekend! Nothing here - so many of the storms this winter have (thankfully) passed us over. Other than a handful of very cold days, we've really had a pretty mild winter so far (knock on wood...)

It seems like once you get referred to a specialist, you can't get away from them. So the every 9 months appointments just continue.

I found out that one doctor refers you to a specialist and that specialist decides to refer you to two more. I let them know that I am not retired, do not have "nothing else to do" and not interested in seeing more doctors unless there is a specific need to do that. For a lot of older people, going to doctors becomes their lifestyle. I don't ask anyone in my family for a ride unless it is absolutely necessary like after surgery.

It is a way for all of them to stay busy and make money.

My insurance provides rides to doctors and hospitals. If something is going on where I might not feel comfortable driving myself, I call their service. I found out during COVID that doctor appointments can be quite efficiently handled over a video or just voice call. As long as your mother has you for a driver, she will continue to do it that way.

When my son was about four, my mother did not drive. She was in her early 50's. One day I was driving her somewhere and Kevin said, "Grandma, don't you know how to drive a car?" She said, "No, I don't drive and when you grow up you will have to drive me around". Kevin thought a moment and then said, "then when I grow up I will drive a taxi and charge".

My mother said that remark inspired her to learn how to drive. It was a crazy year and she managed to crash four different cars, but she got her license and was independent for close to the next 40 years. She quit driving when she was around 90. Even then she sometimes used rideshare services. I do have a sister who was divorced, not working and became her full time driver until she died at 95.
