I had my GB out 10 years before RNY surgery. My sister had hers out during her VSG surgery. I hope you feel better, that pain is no fun.

My surgeon said that they should do that, but they can't remove a healthy organ. Either the hospital did not allow it or the insurance did not. It took about 12 years to get a gallstone and then he removed it. I never had any pain from it, but he said I would have had an attack someday, so he took it out.

When I had my GB out in 2000, I asked if they took my appendix while they were in there and he said the same thing - they couldn't remove a healthy organ...even a healthy organ that apparently only exists to get infected, lol

years ago they routinely removed the gall bladder when they did WLS, but they don't anymore unless you're having problems with it. Although it's probably just as well - I think it's a minority (albeit a sizable one, I think - but still a minority) that have GB issues.
