Good morning. Ugh, the hard stuff. Today is the 16th anniversary of my son's passing. It presses on my heart in an indescribable way. But I've learned I will make it through, and I have my daughter, son in law and grand girls here today to make it bearable. Today is about remembering, eating, laughing and drinking. We have a traditional "Kelly" ****tail at 3:20 pm each year on this day, but today, because I bought us all tickets to go see Sing II at 7 tonight, I know that I won't chase a bottle of wine down the rabbit hole. So I know there will be joy in my day and a few tears. I'm working every year to get better at embracing the joy. We'll make a great dinner and the girls will open their presents and we'll all be together. And that's worth everything.

It is raining like crazy here. Torrential rain. I'm sitting here enjoying it so much and it's even sweeter because we got the new roof this year and I don't have to worry about leaks!

QoTD: We rarely stay up anymore. Not for the last 15 years or more. However, our oldest son was born on New Year's day, so we have a tradition of setting an alarm and everybody races to call him at midnight. Only one of us gets through and the rest get voicemail. So it's sort of a challenge. And one of us gets bragging rights.

Menu:

B: cottage cheese and meat of some sort

L: not sure yet

D: bacon stuffed prime rib, scalloped potatoes, fresh salad, hawaiian rolls. More of my daughter's cookies for dessert. My mouth is going to be so sad that my small pouch is going to shut off the prime rib so quickly!

My photos this week are a picture of my youngest son and my daughter, the last one of him taken, and then to boost my mood, a photo of our view from the hotel last week and the grandgirls on the balcony waiting for the Christmas light parade on the bay. Have a wonderful holiday whatever you do. And give out extra tight hugs to your family and friends!

Peace Everybody!

Mornin' All!

well I got up early and headed out to water aerobics (not Aqua Zumba - that was cancelled today and next week - that instructor must be out of town). This particular water aerobics class is never very crowded (unlike Aqua Zumba, which is PACKED), and there were fewer people there today than usual, but not by much. Maybe 12 people. We were spread out pretty well and I was masked, so I felt OK. I was glad to get at least a few calories burned off before we head into a potentially dangerous (at least eating-wise) weekend. But I'm going to try really hard to eat reasonably.

the rest of the day I will be making my usual Christmas cheesecake and lasagna for the family dinner tomorrow. Others will be bringing the other "stuff" - so all I'll need to do tomorrow is reheat the lasagna. Easy peasy (although today won't be so easy-peasy with all that assembling and cooking!)

QJB - that high tea looks wonderful. I've never been to one, but there's an Albanian restaurant in one of the 'burbs that used to have these Albanian teas three or four times a year (so maybe somewhat similar?). It included some wonderful Albanian pastries, plus music and dancing. Not sure why they quit doing those - they were great fun.

QOTD: we're often up after midnight on any given night, so we likely will be on NYE as well, but we never go out. I'm too afraid of drunks on the roads. DH sometimes watches the ball drop - I, on the other hand, couldn't care less. We haven't done anything special on NYE in years (as in no special dinners or snacks or whatever....it's just another night!)

B: coffee with half & half, and a protein bar which I ate in the car on the way to the pool

MS: protein shake and some Crunchmaster seed crackers

L: DH wants protein pancakes, but I think I might wait until tomorrow - I've got too much other cooking to do today. I might just have some of my protein chocolate "mousse" with light Cool Whip and raspberries

AS: protein muffin

D: the two chicken skewers that I *still* haven't eaten, plus either a sweet potato (with butter and fake brown sugar) or some coleslaw made with Chinese-style dressing

have a great day, everyone!

I took this picture last night. I was a little surprised a cat fight didn't break out since they both wanted to be in the same spot! (this is now DH's cover pic on his Facebook account)
