I'm not sure if she originally did her own designs or got them somewhere, but I think at this point she just uses a stencil (at least for the black background part - I'm pretty sure she just cuts the color pieces freehand). Does the thing just require a digital copy? I guess I could just scan and upload her stencils (??). Does the Cricut just take digital image and make the cuts from that?

Scanning and uploading stencils will be harder than you think. The Cricut really works best with SVG files (scalable vector graphics). It will take a PNG but it requires some patience to "clean up" the file. I did a little googling and found this blog, where she shows her attempts to do these crafts and she also talks about the file clean up issue. https://pamsdrawingboard.blogspot.com/2019/01/making-wycinak i-paper-cut-outs-with.html

Maybe have her watch some YouTube videos (there are BILLIONS) to see the process. I think she might enjoy it :)

I'm not an expert in any way but the files need to have a clear background. It's usually a .png or a .svg file. Today I'm going to try and make my first cut piece of my own making in photoshop.

I did a quick look at Etsy and saw a lot of templates but didn't see one for the cut outs. I'm going to do a little looking around to see what's available and I'll get back to this!
