Good morning! Today, my husband and I need better attitudes. The window situation on the RV was much more problematic, stressful and annoying than we anticipated and by the day's end, we were at each other's throats and had rocketing blood pressure. Which we soothed with wine. Even though I wanted to be committed to a few days of a mini cleanse. Realistically, these are " first world " problems and no whining (or wine-ing) should be done. As soon as we can, we are off to the hardware store and look for other options for a temporary fix. We just have travel today and tomorrow morning to get through. In other news, I did not cave in to the incredibly strong desire to stress snack. So I can claim that as a win.
QoTD: Once professionally. Was not impressed with the results. I've tried the strips and the toothpastes, but no real improvement. I hate the color of my teeth!
menu

B: 1 oz beef jerky, 1 oz cheddar cheese

L: TBD. On the road

D: left over Thai chicken salad, dressing on the side and my three little dumplings from our lunch at California Pizza Kitchen yesterday.
Lots of water today!

Peace Everyone !

Good morning, everybody!

Today I am mailing Lisa's present. I hope she likes it. I think she is 5% worried that I am getting her something wildly inappropriate. I thought about reassuring her otherwise.

The Colorado weather takes some getting used to. It seems like the sun is hot even if the air isn't. Friday morning, I wore jeans and a jacket and was sweating while walking around Mines. So I changed into shorts, kept the jacket on the side and was doing fine for most of the day. I decided to keep that for the concert.

My son has Physics Lab from 5-6 on Friday, but we got to Fiddler's Green in time for the 7:00 start. There was a long line to present COVID vaccination cards, but it moved pretty quickly. We got to security, Marilyn took out her phone with the E-tickets on it, and then I saw what I had forgotten or pushed out of my mind. "LAWN". Somehow it slipped my memory that we had lawn seats and were showing up to a packed 7:00 concert at 7:05. And that we forgot to bring a blanket.

So we ended up standing at the back of the facility, unfortunately, behind this really tall guy. Hence no pictures. I even checked to see if it was Bill Walton. Nope, just a tall guy. The boys went and hung out near the Food Court so that they could hear the music without smelling the smoke and vaping. They love to watch the solitary dancers.

The concert opened with a cover of Sam Cooke's Good Times as the sun set, followed by a long, jazzy Feels Like a Stranger. A few country songs followed, Alabama Getaway and Me and My Uncle. The Colorado based lyrics of Me and My Uncle were a favorite of the home crowd: I know my uncle/He's as honest as me/ and I'm as honest as a Denver man can be. On to the blues with a cover of Tampa Red's It Hurts Me Too. I know that song mostly from Eric Clapton's version.

Ramble on Rose may have been the highlight with everybody in the crowd singing and Jeff Chimenti's banging ragtime piano. Oteil Burbridge sang Jerry Garcia's pretty ballad If I had the World to Give, and they closed out the first set with Deal. Both of my sons played band in middle school, my older one Saxophone and my younger Trumpet. The night of my youngest's last band concert, I picked him up from the band room and brought him out to my car. Deal was playing on the radio and he said to me "Dad, if we played songs like this, I wouldn't be quitting band." So, I was glad he got to hear it live.

Everything changed then: the break was long, it got colder, and the crowd thinned out. No more wind break. I started to shiver. When the band came back they opened the second set with Sugaree, which had the crowd back up dancing. But it was so cold. I told Marilyn "I'm getting cold." I didn't want to drag everybody home if I was just being a wimp, but she immediately replied "we are good to go if you are." I decided to stay to see what the next song was. And it was one of my favorites, China Cat Sunflower. So happy I got to hear it live. We walked out as they transitioned into Blind Lemon Jefferson's I know You Rider. Such a highlight.

Well, it's a good thing that we left when we did, because the next 6 songs were: Dark Star/The Other One/Drums/Space/Dark Star/The Other One. Yes, Dark Star and The Other One twice. That's 45 solid minutes of Lysergic guitar solos endless drumming and discordant space noise. Even on a warm summer night with a seat, Drums/Space gets me a look from Marilyn - there was no way that she was going to stand in the cold for a triple dose. They ended the concert with Wharf Rat, Sugar Magnolia and encored with a cover of the Band's The Weight. I saw Sugar Magnolia last week, but would have loved to have seen Wharf Rat. It's a song about addiction and denial.

On the way out somebody gave Marilyn a sticker:

I told her not to lick the back of it under any cir****tances.

She told me that she will still go to concerts with me, but only if there are seats involved. I interpreted that to mean she is in for Red Hot Chili Peppers at Soldier Field next Summer. If we ever make our OH trip to Alpine Valley it may be a problem though.

QOTD: I asked my dentists about it a couple of times and they always said; "Do you drink coffee or wine?" Hmmm. Also, I now have a bridge and an implant.

Breakfast: Sausage and cottage cheese

lunch: Mahi burger

Dinner: TBD

Have a great day, all!

Ok. I laughed out loud twice at this post. First, I am zero percent concerned my gift my be inappropriate. I believe Marilyn would kick your ass if there was any chance of that! And I'm so excited to get a random present!

Secondly, I cracked up at "not to lick the back under any cir****tances! Lol.

Ok, Matt, we are counting you in for the long lost field trip to Alpine Valley Music Theater.

I don't know about your knee, but if you have gout, mine got a lot worse when I was about as far out as you are now. I actually thought I had an injury.

I'm still in on the alpine valley show! Who can we all agree on though? Maybe Buffett?
