Diet Soda

I can drink carbonated beverages if there's only a little carbonation in them (either from the get-go or after I let them go a little flat before drinking them). I probably waited a year or more before I started drinking them again. Although this is only flavored water. I can't do diet soft drinks at all anymore - they taste too chemically for me. I used to really like them, but they taste really "off" to me now after being away from them for so long.

I waited a good year post surgery before I drank it. it didn't bother me. I can drink several cans a day (thus the regain). However, if I have the fountain diet coke I think it has way more carbon so it's uncomfortable and I tend to vomit whatever I am eating at the time.

It 3 years before I caved....my downfall is Diet Dr. Pepper. At that point I would open one and let it go flat. But that quickly got old. The carbonation was not a factor for me because I had RNY which leaves the pouch open into the upper intestines so the carbonation can't stretch the pouch as indicated by some. I have had a couple of times when I was not paying attention to how much I was drinking and the result was an ulcer scare. I realized what was happening and made changes. It was 2 months before I could get a scope to check it out because of the pandemic. The result was good at that time but he did tell me that he saw an area that could definitely be a healed ulcer. This is the bigger danger in my opinion. While we have to make major changes, we each have the capacity to make our own decisions. Even now 11 years out, if I am enjoying a food and take one more bite than I should, I will pay the price in pain until my body decides to purge it....usually about 4 hours. The biggest thing about carbonated drinks is whether or not they act as triggers for other eating behaviors that were once associated with them in our former lives....eating chips and dip or a chocolate bar or a bag of cookies. Evaluate yourself and your triggers. Good luck going forward.

Sure if you want to undo all the work and pain you went through....start up with the diet coke. And just know you will probably never meet or maintain your goals if you are going to start slipping at 3 months in. Ouch....but true. I had a BAD diet coke addiction....my doctor made me stop prior to surgery.....yes it was soooooo hard. And for a long time....maybe a year? the sound of a pull tab would get my brain and mouth thinking about one.

Been over 13 years now....the desire went away a long time ago....but my wls friends who started back on soda....as fat or fatter than before. That is the gd truth. So you decide...it is your path and your future and diet coke will not add to the success or health of your
journey. Do you want a new healthy life? Or the same old one? Your choice....and you will live with it. All my best....

I never knew this that carbonated beverages can be consumed if you have had the sleeve or gastric bypass. I thought that the gases made your stomach expand and can make you eat more? So, what about other carbonated beverages, like, champagne and beer? Again, I remember some public figures who have had weight loss surgery and they lost weight but then gained it back and one of them was in a few public photographs drinking beer, and soda, as if these attributed to his weight regain. Thank you for this

Get over it.! forget the bubbly feeling of that poison laced formaldehyde drink.asparatine turns into formaldehyde at body temp...

If YOU WANT A TWISTED GUT GO FOR IT! First....let me tell you it's no fun landing in the hospital with a tube up your bum hole to give an oil retention enema, and a tube to low intermittent suction down your nose. It takes 5 days for the intestine to usually un-twist.

I have had 2 from gastritis one i had had potatoes with cheese, and drank a cola that had been shaken- appaently not enough...this was 6 years post op... so for you to do that- at a few months post op is totally stupid from my past experience perspectivel! Second one was from gastritis/medication induced..

Sometimes I want a sip of something cool too ... maybe every six months I?ll end up with a Diet Coke in my hand .

In my case I burp and sneeze uncontrollably from the carbonation- even if I let it go flat for a day I can barely stand it ( and by then it?s no longer cold nor refreshing.

The one exception is fruit flavored seltzer water which mixed with wine is probably my favorite ****tail . And since the soda is just half powered it seems to go down ok ( not that I?m recommending drinking of course ) I can't drink beer either without burping n barfing .... definitely not a good look lol!

Soda (Pop) has not bothered me since about six months post-op and I drink it a couple of times a week.
