Hi Carol
Have you had any issues adapting to the new lifestyle? Any struggles?
I have to go for bloodwork next week to check for autoimmune issues... my thyroid is still an issue... and as I approach 50, I wonder what other issues are possible ð??"

I have been fortunate to not have any major issues in 10 years. I do get bloodwork done once a year and my labs have remained in check. I take all the surgery recommended supplements plus several more since the pandemic started.
About 2 years ago, I got lax and had a regain and then my diabetes went off the charts. I started KETO diet and got things back under control pretty quickly and have tried to behave.
The brain is a funny thing, isn't it. I feel the same way. After this long I still catch a glimpse in the mirror and have a hard time recognizing my own face! I am cleaning out years of accumulation and one of the things has been all the old school pictures for 30+ years! I did not have my surgery until I had been retired for 6 years.
I am sorry to hear you are having autoimmune issues, my ex-sister-in-law, is dealing with some very difficult ones at the moment. Her labs show all of her immunological values to below normal ranges. She did not have weight loss surgery, but did have a lapband about 8 years ago which is still in place but she did not keep it filled. Autoimmune issues are so difficult to get specific diagnoses.
Good to be in touch with others. It has been awhile for me.

I am very happy for you to have not had any major issues! Yay!!
I get regular labs done too and take all the necessary supplements. I also have dabbled with Keto in the last 8 months off and on...(not super strict but mostly under 20g net carbs) my doc suggested intermittent fasting to help with my thyroid issues.. oddly I had already been using this practice for about a week prior to my appointment.
I seem to do well with 18:6 almost daily. I guess I needed to reach out here today because I was curious if anyone else around the 10yr mark had been trying keto and IF. I have a few other health issues that will be rectified once I can have surgery. (This pandemic has put so much on hold)
I am very curious about the autoimmune stuff tho... but would rather have answers than second guess things

I'm 17 years out. Had hypothyroidism and am now chugging along on levothyroxine. It's really helped me keep my weight stable without starving myself.
I have type II diabetes which is very well controlled and vitiligo, both of which are mooted as autoimmune diseases and still struggle with iron deficiency.
On the whole, I'm in pretty good shape though, better than I would have been 120+lbs ago.

Sometimes it feels like we traded 1 issue for another... but overall in 10 yrs there are only a handful of days I have regretted the Surgery. And that was mostly in the beginning when I was so overwhelmed. Now I still follow the original rules I was given for the most part. Some exceptions do apply lol
I am glad I got back on here.. and found some long timers like me. Thanks for reaching out it helps to hear others' stories!
