Glad I can make you smile, I know you have had a tough week. No happy hour this week because we are almost all traveling. But we do have wine with dinner at the lodge.

The dryer definitely counts, lol. My old dryer had a quick setting for getting wrinkles out. I miss that dryer!

I grew up ironing. I had 12 little brothers and sisters. Everyone went to Catholic school and had to have a white shirt or blouse as part of their uniform.

We washed all those shirts and blouses on Saturday, dipped them in liquid starch, and then hung them to dry. Outside in warm weather and in the basement in cold weather. When they were dry, we put them in the freezer to dampen and soften before ironing them.

Ironing was my Sunday evening chore and took from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM. Depending on the year, there would be between 40 and 50 to iron. I had it down to a method and took about five minutes to finish and hang each piece. I still remember when spray starch was introduced in 1960. It made my life so much easier.

Now I wear button down dress shirts for work. I only buy Lands End no-iron shirts and wash them in cold water Woolite and Downy wrinkle release softener. I get them hung as soon as they are dry and never have to use the iron. I use an iron only for things like curtains that tend to get washed once a year.

Now the kids in Catholic School wear cotton polos--no more button downs! Can you imagine how nice that would have been?
