Mornin'!

Pedicure appt later this morning. My b-day is tomorrow, so a friend made a pedicure appt for both of us as a gift. She said she'd get me a gift certificate for one if I'm not ready for it - and I probably won't be ready for one for another week or two - but I'd rather go with her than by myself. Not that I mind going by myself (I always do..), but it'd be much more fun going with a friend!

I also need to swing by the Mexican bakery to order my tres leches cake. I wasn't going to get one this year because I don't need any leftover tres leches cake lying around (the thing is huge - i doubt my family will eat more than half of it tomorrow), but my sister really loved the cake we got from there last year, so she insisted she was going to buy one for me. I'll just send people home with some - and also take some over to a friend's house on Wednesday, since we're doing a take out dinner there. And I'll be sure to store it in the basement fridge while it's here so I won't have to look at it every time I open the fridge door (like I would if it was in the main fridge in the kitchen...). I'm on a roll with eating and exercising and weight loss, so I don't need that thing gumming up the works. One way or another, I will manage this!!

QOTD: it struck me several years ago that Led Zeppelin really could have used a "real" lyricist. I loved their music when I was a teen and young adult, but now, when it comes on the radio and i really focus on the lyrics, I realize how ridiculous they are.

Lunch out today - so this menu took some work. The lunch is part of a meeting of one of my film discussion groups. We're discussing "The Florida Project" today. I saw it in the theatre when it came out (2017, I think...). Watched it again a couple of nights ago to refresh my memory. Really good film.

B: protein smoothie (blended with kale and frozen strawberries). Coffee with half & half.

MS: protein muffin

L: I'm ordering the mezze plate which comes with hummus, grilled pita, olives, and vegetable shawarma. Will probably eat 1/2 the shawarma (more or less depending on how big it is), about 1/4 C of hummus (with pita pieces dipped in it), a few olives, and bring the rest home.

AS: peach and vanilla Greek yogurt

D: I have one of those seasoned vegetable medleys in the freezer - this one is "Asian" (actually Chinese-style - "Asian" is pretty darn broad, but that's what they label it as). I'll bake some tofu and add that to it, and eat about a cup of the final product.

have a great day, everyone!

P.S. oops - forgot to add a photo. This is a picture of last year's tres leches cake. I was going to get something different this year, but the other options you can add sounded more appropriate for a cold-weather birthday (nuts, chocolate, dulce de leche filling, coconut - forget what else). The fruit option (you can also get pineapple) is great for summer - although I could always add the coconut flakes to it (or maybe not - even MORE calories...). I'm still getting the strawberries and peach slices on the top, though. They look beautiful!

Good morning!

Yesterday was a tough one! (made infinitely better with JB's news though!). Hard work day, made harder by having to terminate an employee. Ugh. And the stucco people, in this order, sent me an email saying "Hey, we are not going to make it to your jobsite today to finish and clean up, hope to be there tomorrow", and then, "Hey, here is your final invoice for 50% for completion of work and the check needs mailed right away". I was like, Hey back -- finish the work and I'll finish the check! I have a doctor's appt today to get my hormone implant done (ouch) and then once I get home, we hope to walk down into the village and hit up the little farmers market for fresh tomatoes and broccolini. I can't seem to get enough of those two items these days. No big plans for this weekend, but if the stucco people finish up we can start restoring order to our yard and patio and maybe even have dinner out there one night this weekend.

QoTD: I've got nothing personally. I'm milk-toast when it comes to music. But I was on a day cruise with my oldest son and friend and the boat guys had party music bump-bump-bumping and a few times I was like hand on my mouth shocked at the words that were blasting. Which of course my kid and his buddies found hilarious.

Menu:

B: hb egg, 1/4 c cottage cheese with EBTB seasoning

L: leftover 2/3's blue corn tortilla taco with carne asada and queso Oaxaca.

D: steak for the hubs and mashed sweet potato. I might have a bite of the steak, but my tummy really doesn't like steak so I'll find some other protein in the fridge. I wish my mouth agreed with my pouch. It loves steak, but the price is too high to pay these days.

S: Chompies

No photos for me this week. All my photos on my phone are of painting misses to be addressed with the painters. Boring.

Peace Everyone!

Paint It Black is one of my all-time favorite Rolling Stones' songs. I used to have one of their cassette tapes back in the day and used to rewind and play it over and over and over again while I was in the car!

Great pictures! My dinner last Friday was more cylindrical, but otherwise the same.

JB, I love these Alice in Wonderland inspired lyrics that Robert Hunter wrote:

"China Cat Sunflower"

Look for awhile at the China Cat Sunflower
proud-walking jingle in the midnight sun
Copper-dome Bodhi drip a silver kimono
like a crazy-quilt stargown
through a dream night wind

Krazy Kat peeking through a lace bandana
like a one-eyed Cheshire
like a diamond-eye Jack
A leaf of all colors plays
a golden string fiddle
to a double-e waterfall over my back

Comic book colors on a violin river
crying Leonardo words
from out a silk trombone
I rang a silent bell
beneath a shower of pearls
in the eagle wing palace
of the Queen Chinee
