Ferritin 5 and iron 13? really?

ugh. When my ferritin drops below 30, I get infused. It took a while to get approved the first time, but now it's better.

Oral iron, when you take it, (what type?) could take weeks if not months to show improvements. I could not absorb them, even heme iron, and any iron, even heme iron caused severe pain an cramps when I took it.

Not sure what iron are you taking, but heme iron can give you a chance to see improvements.

If your ferritin is 5 - there is a very small chance you can increase it significantly with oral iron. Sorry.

You may need to find a good doc. Gastro doc. Even one on line. or get your doc to get educated by someone who knows anything about anemia.

With numbers like that, if you need an emergency surgery of any type, they would have to give you blood.

BTW: From my own life: (a joke): When my partner told me his blood type is "0-", apparently I told him that, if nothing else, I would keep him, if not for love, then for his blood. He is a universal blood donor.

I don't remember telling him that, but it sounds like something I would say. And I know that if he would need to donate blood for me, he would do it in a heartbeat. We've been together a little over 10 years.

Good morning, everybody!

I'm hoping that everything goes well for your tests today, JB. I've read that swollen glands are a common vaccine side effect, so maybe that is all that it is?

In a fit of laziness yesterday, I tried to pull my knee sleeves over my shoes instead untiring them like a normal person. My reward for that was that all of my abdominal muscles cramped up. I spent about 5 minutes lying face down, sweating and in pain. There is a bit of residual soreness today, but I am mostly OK.

Our computer is a little peppier this morning. I'm not sure whether Marilyn fixed it or whether it is just vagaries of the game, but I'm enjoying it nonetheless.

The embarrassment of lying face down in the changing area with one knee sleeve covered shoe might have been as much as the pain in my abdomen. Plus all of the "are you OK?" questions.

Sorry you had such a painful experience. It seems like every time I am in pain, it is because I tried to shortcut on doing something and caused pain and cramping. Glad it is better now. Sometimes I really miss being able to take an Ibuprofen.

you need electrolytes. More sodium.

Unfortunately I'm very familiar with abdominal spasms, muscle spasms in general.

I need to supplement my sodium. daily
