Luna is looking at you like "really, a photo now"....she's clearly channeling her inner teen girl.

I think counselors in public schools often get so bogged down with administrative things like sending transcripts out to colleges and employers that they often have time for little else - which is unfortunate because I think a lot of them get into the field thinking they're going to do actual counseling. And with school budgets as they are, they probably can't afford to hire enough people to do all that those offices really should be doing. It's sad because I think they could really do a lot of good intervening in problems early enough to make a difference in kids' lives (well, not that sending out transcripts doesn't do any good for people, but you know what I mean...)

Don't get me started. DD and DS are 4 yrs apart, so we were in high school for 8 years. Due to the last name we got the same counselor. If I could I seriously would have killed her. She was so apathetic. DD who had a 4.4 gpa, had to meet with her for college plans, although thank god we could afford to hire outside college advisor. So she looks at her grades and all of her AP classes and proceeds to say "yup, community college is the prefect fit for her!" We found out that's what she says to everybody, no matter their situation. When DS started high school I was hoping to get somebody else but we got stuck with her again. But this time around I knew she is useless so we just had outside help. But for the people who can't afford outside help she was their only guidance and it was just horrible. She had told a girl as a jr you will never go to a 4 year college, the girl ended up at UC Berkeley just to prove her wrong. I even wrote a couple of complaints to the Principal and vice principal, to the point in one case the VP helped us out for concurrent community college classes (it needed the high school permission) because the counselor was MIA!
I know they are overworked, but to be non caring is just not OK. Especially for kids that their only hope is to receive guidance from her.

oh yea - sounds like that particular one pretty much sucked. I knew some I went through grad school with (my first masters was in counseling psych - but we had the guidance & counseling students in our dept, too). They really did get into it because they wanted to actually counsel and help teens (and/or younger kids). Although sounds like your kids' high school got stuck with a loser!

Good morning~ I agree, Friday has a whole new meaning now! I have have been super busy and only doing drive-byes here the past couple of days. I should be able to catch up reading today so I know everything that is going on with you all! Wow, 100 pounds - I mean I know it's possible, but how horrible. My 45 was horrible....I haven't noticed any super weigh gains at my work, but a lot of us are a *****unkier - like me! I have noticed one particularly heavy woman is very thin now. I think she had WLS - good for her! Having sushi with my sister for lunch today. Lot's of packing to do this weekend, but will make time for some golf, a pedi and relaxation.

QOTD - My non- profit ideas would be helping the homeless veterans and mentally ill with services and assisted living housing. Also rehabbing disabled and/or abused animals all the live long day.

Good morning, everybody!

The tennis ladies were over last night, but it was both teams, so I would have been overwhelmed so, I jus****ched TV.

Not much planned today. I am a day behind on lifting, so hopefully will be motivated to catch up.

My older son is feeling sick, so he is home today. My youngest ordered the parts for his PC rebuild. He still has a bunch of online Drivers Ed to finish up. You guys already know what Marilyn will be doing.

My pictures are from our trip to North Dakota last week. The discoloration on the Buffalo is because my son took the picture through the car window and his clothes are reflecting. It kind of looks like the buffalo is wearing a rugby shirt.

QOTD: I wouldn't start a new organization, because there are many good ones that are underfunded.
