before surgery
not really -- although I'm sure there are people who have those urges. But just know that the food restrictions are temporary. You'll be pretty restricted the first few weeks - and for some things, the first few months - but eventually there won't be restrictions. I can eat pretty much everything I could before surgery, although I can't stomach super fatty meals anymore, so I avoid them. I also eat much smaller portions than I did before. But there really aren't any particular food items or dishes that I can't have now.

Before I went on the 2 week liquid diet I ate a few things I had been craving. Surprisingly my stomach wasn't as big after eating right for 5 months and I would fill up easy. Good luck ???
It was called Last Supper syndrome when I had surgery. I will never again be able to have lasagna, Big Macs, cookies, ice cream, cake, candy, etc. etc., so need to eat as much as possible now.
Reality is that after the first few weeks, you can eat anything. If you are smart, you continue to eat the proper foods and lose the weight. Some people go right back to what they were eating before and fail their surgery.
You are probably better off to avoid eating a lot of junk foods right before surgery. This is a time for you to be as healthy as possible. You have the rest of your life to eat other foods. Take advantage of the first few years after surgery to learn excellent eating habits that will allow you to remain slim and healthy for life.
Real life begins where your comfort zone ends
tambra,
It sounds pretty normal to me.. Our whole weight loss platforms are based on denying self of ---whatever.
The surgery will only work if you get your head in the place to obey the surgeons rules from day one thru the remainder of your life.
Get all pre and post op instructions in writing. be sure to get long term expectations- Not for weight- but for the supplements and diet controls you need to use.My Dr gave me carb limits of 20-50 grams per day and 90 grams protein a day..
You can eat your way out of success. No one can make that choice but you. You must do this for YOU alone. You must love yourself first.
If there is one item you crave very much.. My approach -many years ago was to have a bite sized portion one time a day. for two days.. There s chemicals in chocolate for example that leave us feeling "satisfied". yes i got bite sized hershey bars- just 2 and gave the rest away Then i would remind myself.. that was good but it is done for a while- til i get to goal.
I had a radical surgical procedure - it did work. my tool , still works.I have a 4 oz pouch for cold items.. and slightly larger now for hot/slider foods... soups, thin stews...25 years... here are many foods and items i do not tolerate well.
i can eat a few bites of most anything...if i desire to pay the price for it.. shrimp, i can eat 3, ice cream one serving is 45 cc.(blood sugar and milk- have it about 2x a year..is enough) broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage- can't digest. so massive amounts of probiotics must be taken when i choose those.
you can do this...

I know this is not normal, but I was the opposite! I felt like that was the last week of my life I would ever have to "diet", so it would be no big deal to do it for one last time, and get a jump start on the weight-loss. But I am weird, I guess!
