I thought of you when I took a two hour nap on Saturday afternoon.
We must of had the same idea then because I too took a nap Saturday! Lol. Mostly because the weather was nasty.

Mornin' Everyone!
My brother is still here. He starts heading home tomorrow morning (he's doing it in two days). The only thing I have today is a committee meeting on Zoom this afternoon. I wish I didn't because I just want to be outside, but we only have one more meeting (in two weeks) before we're free for the summer. YAY!! I plan to pull back on some of these activities come fall. Too many committees and responsibilities. I'll keep a couple so that I'm feeling productive and feel like I'm contributing something, but I envisioned my retirement a bit differently than how it's turned out, and I want to re-align. I want more free time to do what I want to do - exercise, kayak, go to the gym, take classes, meet up with friends, etc. I don't like all these meetings, having deadlines, etc - it makes me feel like I'm still working. So things will change up a bit come fall...
I'm glad all this family-related eating is about to come to an end (with my brother leaving). There haven't been any blowouts, but I've been over my range most days since he got here. Not a big deal if it's one day, but those extra calories every day do accumulate, and I'm feeling it. I'm getting together with a friend tomorrow evening and have lunch scheduled with two friends on Friday. I'm really going to have to make sure anything I eat at those two functions fit into my calorie range because I'm really feeling off-track at the moment...
QOTD: I don't know if there's a particular food i crave, but I seem to think about (and eat) sweets a lot more than I did pre-surgery. It's probably because I've gotten used to eating them, which I rarely did before I had surgery. Eat more - want more. I need to work on that as well...
B: I'd planned on yogurt pie, but I think I'm just going to have some Greek yogurt with some fruit compote. Coffee with half & half
MS: protein shake
L: 2 oz Deli turkey and 1-2 babybels
AS: the last 1/2 protein muffin and a L&F yogurt
D: 1/2 a turkey pastrami reuben, light cole slaw (made with low fat mayo)
ex: hopefully biking!
have a great day, everyone!
The big challenge of retirement ends up being finding a reason to get out of bed in the morning. I retired at 62 and filled my schedule with people, places, and things. I had an activity planned for every day and sometimes two or three meetings, dinners, lunches, nightclubs, parties, or classes.
After a few years, I decided to take a part-time job and thought I could do that and keep up with everything else. I ended up working full-time and dropping almost everything else. I worked for three years and then took three years off.
I like working enough to pay for large purchases without having to tap into savings every year. The estimated amount I thought I would be comfortable with ended up being a lot more than I thought it would. Working doing income taxes works for me now. I work from January to April and then have the rest of the year to myself. But after COVID confinement, I might just give up working completely.
I do know that the most important thing to have for a good retirement is health. Without that, nothing else is enjoyable.

Mary, are you saying that you find that you spend more in retirement than you thought that you would or less? I thought that most people find that they spend less.

I started out spending less, but now spend close to what I spent when I was working. Being widowed, I have to pay for things that my husband did around the house that I just took for granted. He was hard-working and handy so I rarely paid for electrical, plumbing, painting, snow removal, landscaping, or car maintenance. Food for one costs about the same as food for two. Utilities are the same.
I still like to take vacations, buy nice furniture and clothes, give presents to my family, and continue to save. People in my family live into their 90's. I want to live my life without worrying about running out of money or options. If my husband had lived, I am sure I would not be working.
