First Doctor's Appt
Hello,
I've been posting on the sleeve board until now but looks like I'll be switching to the bypass...
Had my first bariatric doctor's appt today. There was a lot to process. The biggest thing is switching from the sleeve to the bypass. The doctor felt that with the amount of GERD/reflux I have it was unwise to consider doing the sleeve. So I'm working on wrapping my head around that. (It also costs $5,000 more)
I have a laundry list of appts I have to have, psych eval, nutritionist, cardiac clearance, EGD, upper GI - among other things before the actual procedure. Already took the paperwork by my cardiologist so hopefully we'll start chipping away at all this this week. :)
Nervous and excited to be here,
Lara

Best of luck with all of your apts! I look forward to following your journey!

That punch list of pre-surgery appointments is daunting isn't it? But it sounds like you have the right attitude and are on your way!

Hi Lara
my surgeon persuaded me against the sleeve, which was my first choice. I had my gastric bypass on 3/24/21. Did you loose the weight you wanted with the sleeve? Is the bypass spiky for the reflux?
wishing you luck on your work-up.

Spiky was an autocorrect that was incorrect. It was only for reflux. I thought you had already had the sleeve. Good luck on your journey. I look forward to seeing your progress

trust me, it's worth $5000 not to risk having your GERD get worse. You'd be miserable, plus you'd probably be spending that much in PPI's for the rest of your life - and potentially have to revise to bypass *anyway* if your GERD got really severe. I had bypass because of that issue. It was a no-brainer for me. I've been very happy with my RNY and would choose that again.
Welcome. Were glad to have you. Your not going through anything we have not all experienced pre surgery. Wish we could say no need to be worried but no matter what we say won't change that. Just want you to know that you can come back in a year and read this post and Laugh. The process is nothing like what is going through your head. I wish you the best. It is a great life changing journey. I wouldn't change what I did for anything.

Hi ZhivagosGirl,
Glad to have you here.. It is a good thing to skip anything that can add to GERD/reflux. Try to relax and take this process one day at a time, one step at a time. it is a process. Take care of yourself.. Don't stress any more than you can help.. practice skills to care for yourself- give non food rewards and develop that as a habit. You are worthy of the effort and result.s.
One thing you might begin doing , If you have not, is to begin measuring every thing exactly. that you take in.. Try to estimate the food before measuring and practice this skill so that it becomes second nature..
You will use this for the remainder of your life.. You will not always be where you can accurately measure, having this skill will make your intake monitoring more accurate....
The people who frequent this site have been thru the procedure you are recommended to have and more... They have already been thru t and can help with any problems and encourage you.
