Yes, the meat makes my tummy twill .....it gets uncomfy. Before my surgery, I was already sensitive to foods so now it is intensified. I loved all meat before now I have a hard time keeping them down. I can only hope this gets better in time. Thanks!!!!!!

this is another one of those issues where there seems to be no consensus among surgeons - some are fine with it, others aren't - which tells me it's probably not the worst thing you can do. Several people on here drink diet soda without incident, once they're a ways out from surgery. I can't really drink it because the carbonation bothers my stomach, but others can tolerate it just fine.

I did try it once when I was about three years out. The carbonation DOES bother my stomach, but on top of that, I'd been away from it for so long that it tasted like chemicals to me. It was ....AWFUL. So that was my one post-op experience with diet soda. But there are a lot of others who are fine with it and drink it regularly.

Thank you. I am trying to still get used to just flat drinks with no carbonation. Once in a while when my tummy is not settled I like a sip of diet soda would make it better but I assume it would make it more uneasy. Thanks and yes the chemical .....are deadly. I would drink PERRIER Carbonated Mineral Water.

I remember my son trying my Diet Coke and describing it as a chemical waste dump in a bottle.

I lived on Diet Coke for many years. Then I went about five years and did not touch it. My husband got cancer, i spent a lot of time in hospitals, and taking care of him. Sometime after he died, I had a Diet Coke, sort of a way of dealing with depression. It did not taste that good, but I liked the frizz and caffeine rush. In a short time, I was drinking it constantly again.

Then I gave it up because all the caffeine kept me too nerved up. I don't drink coffee or tea. If I want carbonation, I drink Diet Ginger Ale. You can drink diet sodas if you want to and if they don't make you sick to the stomach. I was about four years out when I tried it. Other people are drinking it after a few weeks.

Thanks ......I was looking for the fizziness! I think I am just having a hard day and wanted to fall back on the old habit. On a weekend I might try just carbonated water (perrier water with a flavor) if I need to but trying to stick to the rules so I can be successful with this amazing tool we have.

I am fairly new to this site but I have found the interactions helpful. I like the meal accountability also. Unfortunately, my bariatric center's support group has been suspended since COVID shut-down. Not even zoom meetings. So it is great to have you all for support.

this has basically been my support group since I had surgery almost six years ago. My clinic had them (pre-COVID, that is), but they were at 5:00 on Monday nights on the other side of town, and there was no way I could get over there by 5:00 when I was still working. Once I retired (almost three years ago), I was three years out so that group wouldn't have been a good match for me - it's all pre-ops and early post-ops, so I don't think I would have gotten much out of it. This site has been great since there are people at all different stages - including some many years out.

Unjury (the protein company) has online support groups on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. I sometimes go to the Wednesday ones (which are geared more toward people a year or more out) depending on the speaker. The Tuesday one is geared more toward pre-ops and people less than a year out. But anyone can go to either/or. The groups are listed on their Web site.

Even though I have a bit of imposter syndrome here(my issue and my issue only) I really count on the interactions I have here. I really appreciate all of you! I have other friends who have had WLS but it's just not the same as here.
