Plastic Surgery Question
Hello everyone!
I am posting in multiple forums.
It has been sometime since I posted on this website. Busy with life & then COVID.
I had Gastric Bypass Roux-En-Y in January 2017. I have lost 130 pounds and have maintained the weight loss for the last 3 1/2 years. I look and feel great! The gastric bypass bypass was life-changing for me.
I have had a consult with a plastic surgeon in 2019. He put in all the paperwork for the panniculectomy. Ultimately. The problem is OHIP initially denied the authorization to cover cost. My panni hangs half over my mons pubis (mons Venus). I hated how it sits in my lap while on the toilet. I have had rash/excoriation & odour. I have purchased just about every over the counter sprays and powders to keep the area clean. Without too much success. I wear compression panties to hold it in but that is ultimately causing irritable bowel from the intestinal compression.
I can?t wait to look down and see my Mons Pubis. Lol TMI Sorry
I have gone back to see the surgeon.
HE ENCOURAGED APPEAL!
COVID HAPPENED
I submitted a very well written appeal letter. Submitted a letter from my general practitioner and a letter from the weight management clinic that initially referred me to the plastic surgeon.
Great news!! I finally got approval. I upgraded to a full abdominalplasty. I am paying for half. I am very excited and can't wait. My surgery is in 3 weeks, February 19th. 2021. I am a little bit anxious as I am a widow. Two of my sons are away at school. Just me and my 14-year-old at home now.
Looking for advice. The dos and don'ts before and after tummy tuck... Looking for recommendations that helps you through the process. What did you do and would do differently? If you were to do it again? What would you do differently?
Hoping everything goes well.
I have done quite a bit of research online. Just looking for additional feedback.
I found so much support before, during & after ROUX-En-Y.
Wondering how everyone is doing?
Thank you
Sincerely
Rose ?

Get a really good compression garment and wear it all of the time for about six weeks. Talk to your surgeon about doing that. After my tummytuck I could not straighten my back for about a week. Having a walker really helped. If you can get someone to help you out for a few days, do it. The best thing to do is sit in a recliner and ask somebody if you need a glass of water. The less moving you do, the faster the healing will be.
When I did too much walking, the drainage would increase. I had drains for three weeks. I wore men's flannel shirts and put the drains in the pocket of the shirts. I did not drive and rested as much as possible. The thing I would do differently is use the silicone sheets to promote healing of the scar. It took years to fade away.
I found a lot of help and support on this site Realself

Hello White Dove
I remember you from from PRE, & POST RNY days.
I often wonder how everyone is doing? I started a coffee/tea group here in Ottawa, Canada and stepped away from Obesity Help. We met regularly every month. Grew to 12 strong but COVID has made it difficult.
Six of us met while social distancing during the summer in my back yard. We are in self isolation mode here in Canada.
I am so glad to have heard from you. Thank you for the tips. It is my understanding that I will come home with some sort of compression garment. Is that what you are referring to? I have a ton of compression under wear. I was going to donate but decided to hang on to it.
Thanks again
Sincerely
Rose

I remember you posting!! So happy to hear you are doing well and you have kept the weight off. I'm guessing you didn't indulge like me and cause 35 lbs of regain? I too was very similar to your start and lowest weights. I want to get back down to 165 because that was my sweet spot. What have you done to fight indulging? I wish more of us would post here! Good luck with your pani :)

Hello Lucille
How are you doing? Life has most certainly had it?s up & downs. My mother-in-law was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. I looked after her for six months. The stress of her diagnosis and loss certainly took a toll. Lost quite a bit of weight & decided to try & stay there. I am a grazer.... I try to stay within a 5 lb range. Between Halloween & New Year?s? I lacked some self control. I have FALLEN OFF THE WAGON the key is not letting it run you over! After RNY I gave up all starches. Discovered I am gluten intolerant. Feel better eating clean. I garden, cycle & walk A LOT spring/summer/fall. An hour each day in winter. I most certainly indulged over the holidays but really had to reel myself in January 4th. I have lost the extra 5 lbs. I continue to weigh myself daily and never ever allow myself to pass that 5 pounds. I am currently at 165 & maintaining. I want to have my abdominalplasty at goal. My guilty pleasures!
The Costco peanut butter pretzels are my guilty pleasures. I only eat 6 at a time & still treat myself to goodies. Always in moderation. RNY & losing weight was easy. Maintaining weight loss is very hard. Hoping to hear from more the vets. Take care and stay strong!

Good morning
I agree... That scale makes all the difference!
Increased activity is key. Moderation is important!
I continue indulging but try to stay in control.
10 chips (not the whole bag). A handful of this and that. Anything more then that? I don't feel well.
I started putting a dollop of Rum Chatta in my morning coffee when COVID STRUCK & that is my treat to me.
Otherwise, I continue to stay away from alcohol, carbonated anything, NSAIDS & junk.
There is nothing more satisfying than reaching goals and maintaining it.
Feeling healthy and looking great!
Absolutely life-changing.
I always say to anyone considering the Roux-en-Y jump in with both feet. I promise you....you'll never regret it!

After this kind of procedure, you can't play sports for several months. The only thing that won't hurt you are walking. This is a serious procedure. I think it would be better if you consult a doctor. When my sister wanted to do plastic surgery, she consulted with several specialists. She even consulted with specialists who teach cosmetic procedures at Botox & Dermal Filler training courses. Considering that now there is a dangerous virus and any person can be its carrier, are you not afraid to make an operation?
