What's on your Thursday (NYE) Menu?
Mornin' All!
today I'm meeting a friend for an early lunch at Panera Bread. I was really hesitant about going, but since it's early, hopefully there won't be very many people there - and we can sit far away from other customers. Still.. ugh. Hopefully this will go OK. Other than that, no plans, other than to swing by the vet clinic and pick up some meds for one of the cats. And go by my MIL's to "fix" her computer (these seniors!! Sheesh!!)
Accountability was better yesterday, but still not good. Like Liz, I'm usually fine until after 4:00. I did 45 minutes of an intense Zumba class last night (youtube) in an attempt to work off some of the calories (I was 200 kcal over my limit). Scale was down 0.6 lbs this morning, but then it was unusually high yesterday - mostly water. Not sure why I'm having such a difficult time sticking to plan lately. But...we keep trying...
QOTD: I don't remember any! When I was a teen, I always babysat on NYE. I guess I probably went out when I was a young adult, although nothing comes to mind. Now, we stay home (I'm afraid of all the drunk people on the roads). It's really like any other day/night for us.
TSS: 5y6m
B: plain Greek yogurt with strawberry compote
MS: may skip my usual protein shake/Fit Frappe since I'm having an early lunch - if so, this'll be an afternoon snack
L: Panera turkey chili with the sprouted grain roll (or the apple option if they have it...)
AS: not much. Maybe a yogurt if I can afford the calories. I also have a lot of raw veggies in the fridge I could stand to use up - and some dip made from plain Greek yogurt with ranch dressing mix mixed in. So maybe that.
D: the last of the turkey breast (2 oz) with a small sweet potato
happy New Year, everyone! I hope it turns out to be better than 2020!
My Mom tried to get some in home assistance yesterday and wasn't able to. After talking to her doctors office- of course he's on vacation I found out the only way that they can send her to a rehab facility or nursing home is if she goes back to the hospital. So trying to multi-task I told her we (me & my roommate) would be there in about 30 minutes. The plan was to drop me at the barn so I could take care of my horse, he would take her to the hospital and come back and get me. My Mom isn't far from the barn. OK so when he got there she wasn't ready, I did all of my tasks at the barn and then waited, and waited and waited. It was cold and windy so I finally ducked into the viewing room and my phone kept me entertained and I had a hot cup of tea. At least I was out of the wind and relatively warm.
I think she was kind of out of it from the pain meds. Hopefully this time they will figure out why she is in so much pain. And she admitted that she never should have gone home. So another stressful day, I will call the hospital this morning to find out what is going on. One thing they said is she could have broken her leg, not sure why they didn't check that the first time she was there. I have reservations about sending her to a facility with all of the covid, but there really isn't another choice.
QOTD- Being stuck in my car in an ice storm with a frozen radiator. That was my Scarlet O'Hara moment- With God as my witness I'll never be cold again! Which is why Maui is in my future.
Working both today and tomorrow, nowhere to go anyway. All restaurants are only doing take out and all bars are closed. Not that I usually go out on NYE.
Have a great day everyone! Goodbye to a miserable year!

Wishing you and your mom the best! Hope you get some answers.

My mother is from Brooklyn and I always wanted to go to Time Square for New Year's. And the NY relatives told me they were not going out in the crowd and freezing cold. So you had the perfect experience, being inside and still at the scene of all the action.
There were many New Year's Eve parties where I dressed in an evening gown and fur coat, danced all night, kissed friends and strangers at the crack of Midnight and then seemed to drive home with the drunkest person being the designated driver.
Later our town had "Opening Night". Those were non-alcoholic celebrations with lots of local artists. There were shows inside various buildings and people doing giant ice sculptures in the courthouse park, then beautiful fireworks celebrations.
At one of the Opening Nights I met a lady who was playing folk music on a dulcimer. We became friends and she ended up marrying my brother. Today I have pork and sauerkraut in the crockpot and will probably be asleep long before midnight. I have a bottle of non-alcoholic Sangria and will put it in wine glasses. It will just be me and my boyfriend. We will probably watch some Schitt's Creek and end the year laughing.
Real life begins where your comfort zone ends
Amen on ending 2020!
I too am working today but hope to get off a bit early if only to sit and relax for a bit. My son asked me this morning about helping him make some quesadillas once I get home, I'll always say yes since he is now 24 and probably would rather hang with people his own age. I should hop on my indoor bike but doubt that will happen,, I'll make sure to do a home workout with weights in the morning and get out for a long walk if the weather cooperates.
QOTD: I can't say there is any particular year that stands out, but I loved NYE as a kid. We would always spend NYE with 2 other families who had kids,,, the parents would all play cards, drink and laugh like crazy idiots upstairs while the kids did whatever we wanted in the basement. I'm sure there were lots of things we shouldn't have been doing,, but we took advantage of minimal supervision! LOL
This year will be 5-6 of us from the same family playing some cards after dinner.
B - protein shake
S - greek yogurt
L - more like a snack , turkey pepperettes
D - Shrimp, ribs and salad
Happy New Year and Stay Safe everyone!
Good morning! A late post for me today, but earned! I slept in til 8 and then threw myself out of bed and into warm walking clothes. I grabbed my brown dog, Monte...who's a poor little fat boy. We cannot figure out why he is so fat, and I need a walking routine to build muscle, so I decided during the night that he and I would hit the road and get in a good walk. Not quite 2 miles, but it's a start for both of us. The other three dogs in the house were not amused. All I have to say about having 4 large dogs around is there is So. Much. Poop! I've cleaned up 3 times this morning and I see more waiting for me again in the yard.
QOTD: Julia, you left out the most bestest part about your indoor ball drop -- private potties!
My most memorable NYE is easy. 1981. I was on day three of labor with my first born son. It's hard to believe, but they let me go 4 whole days in labor. I was young (19), poor, at a teaching hospital so all newbie doctors, and I believe most significantly, looked about 12. Nobody every believed me when I said I was having trouble. When I was at the hospital on NYE, they told my husband to take me home and get me drunk and then maybe I would stop imagining that I was actually in labor, not just having braxton hicks contractions. When I returned at 6 am, they were suddenly terribly surprised that I was dilated to about 7 and ready to have a baby. He was born at 12:23 pm on January 1. He was three weeks early. 5 days later when I kept saying something was wrong with him, they scoffed at me some more. After begging for an appt, a snotty nurse came out to us and said in a very sarcastic voice "let's see this yellow baby". She took one look at him and the next thing we knew they had scooped us up and had us hustling down corridors and doctors were appearing from everywhere. Again, not believing me that he threw up everything he ate, they made me feed him in front of them. I can't tell you how vindicated we felt when he projectiled vomited all over the doctor. From about 4 feet away. He had surgery early the next morning to repair a full bowel atresia. Part of his intestines never formed. While he still has gut issues related to that birth defect, he is a strapping 6'1" man that is committed to exercise and health. And one of the funniest human beings I have ever met. So happy 39th birthday to my first child. Wow, long story, sorry. I sort of got off track! LOL.
Menu:
B: 1 oz jerky, 3.5 Sonoma bacon cheddar crisps, fake coffee with a splash of heavy cream as a treat.
L: leftover homemade ham and ranch bean soup
D: shrimp, stir fried veggies, served on spaghetti squash
Peace Everyone. It has been a tough year, but I can put together a pretty nice list of 2020 wins. New baby in the family, DIL accepted into nursing school, new traveling home, a smaller body that doesn't hurt all the time or lose balance, a happy, warm and safe permanent home and job I love. Keeping my eyes on the things that count to me.
