My husband's birthday was December 27 and he really did not like Christmas because it seemed like everyone got gifts for his birthday, not just him. It made it really nice for me, because I used to go to the big sales on December 26 and get his present for a lot less money.

He did act like Christmas was just there to ruin his birthday. I told him once that I was sure it ruined Christmas for his mom to be pregnant on December 25.

We still had great Christmas's together. And we had great birthday parties on the 27th.

Merry Christmas! I feel for your DH, early January here so I get it. Always combined gifts when growing up. Now I demand (lol) that my birthday gifts from hubby are NOT in Christmas paper.

Cheers to finishing work!

Last night was my chance to get to the gym so I crushed it and am already feeling it. Today I'll be working until mid-afternoon, then heading home to do some food prep for tomorrows Christmas dinner and semi-healthy appetizer array. My brother called last night and said we should have a Pepper tournament (card game similar to euchre) with prizes so I told him he was in charge of it... lol.

QOTD: Our tradition is pretty boring,,,, we just have a meal together with the "birthday guest" choosing what they want it to consist of. Quite often we get into some card games after.

B - protein shake

L - salad with chicken breast

S - greek yogurt

D - no clue ,,, maybe another shake since I'll be doing food prep and don't want to be sampling too much!

S - being real - likely some bites of what I'm prepping for tomorrow

Merry Christmas Eve everyone,,,, stay safe and enjoy your families!!

Mornin' All!

we got a dusting of snow last night. I hope we don't get any more since I don't know how quickly the plows will be out since it's a city holiday (they WILL be out if it snows, but if a lot of employees are on vacation, it could be slow...). We have to take one of the cats to the vet later on this morning, but that's about it for today as far as leaving the house. I have lasagna to make today (for dinner tomorrow), and we have to get the living room in order since we'll be having the Christmas dinner here.

my sister and her husband are now coming for Christmas dinner. I was OK with this at first because her husband is over 60 and has had a heart attack and two strokes (or vice versa), so he's very vulnerable to the virus and they're therefore pretty careful, but my sister posted pictures on Facebook yesterday of their Christmas with her daughter (I'm guessing the daughter will be with her boyfriend's family on Christmas day, thus, an early one with my sister). No masks. I was worried, since the daughter and her BF are 23, and I don't know how careful they are. I'm not so much worried for myself and DH, but our mothers will both be here for Christmas dinner, too- both elderly, and MIL has COPD (so...vulnerable).

QOTD: we just go out to dinner (and lug along a cake) with the family members who live in the area. Luckily it wasn't hard this year because other than DH, we were all born in warm months. So...outdoor dining. We also celebrate my late father's birthday by going out for reuben sandwiches and carrot cake, his favorites..

TSS: 5y6m

B: plain Greek yogurt with 1/2 diced mango, coffee with half & half

MS: protein shake

L: leftovers (we have turkey breast, pulled chicken, and turkey chili - so one of those). If turkey breast, then I'll have some broccoli and a small sweet potato, too.

AS: skinny bagel with cream cheese, yogurt

D: same as lunch (although one of the remaining options)

have a great day, everyone!

Good morning. It's a tough 24 hours over here. Today is the 15th anniversary of our son's death. The depression feels like a real weight on my chest. Elephant sitting on me. Each year it is less crushing, but still, it's overwhelming. Today, at 3:21 pm, we will have adult beverages in our hands and raise a toast to him. And then we will get on with our Christmas Eve dinner as well as possible. This year looks different because we not seeing any of the kids tomorrow. So tonight is presents, big meal, cards, wine.

QOTD: I'm sticking with a theme here. On January 4, we go to a local bar with amazing burgers. Our son never could go in there because he was under 21. We would go to get burgers when I needed a kid break, and he wanted to go so badly. So every single year since he passed, we have gone there with groups of people. Sometimes huge groups, sometimes 10 or so, and we've sat around their fire ring, had burgers and drinks and toasted to Kelly's birthday. Even though they have an outdoor patio, I'm not sure that can happen this year. We are under such strict Covid orders. That's going to be really depressing. On a fun note, my other son's birthday is January 1. So at the stroke of midnight, after screaming New Year, we all race to call him and be the one person who doesn't get sent to voicemail.

Menu

B: jerky and whisps or egg and cottage cheese.

L: left overs of something healthy out of the packed fridge.

D: here's the menu. Pray for me. Bacon stuffed prime rib, au gratin potatoes, a cheese platter, green bean casserole, rolls, salad. I'm going to do the best I can and leave it at that. And wine. I'm not even gonna lie.

Peace Everyone! I'm going to try and check in here tomorrow, so I bid you all a safe and happy Christmas Eve and hope you are surrounded by love, warmth and make new memories.

Lisa, I admire your positive and sunny disposition. I can't even imagine the pain in losing a son. But from one mom to another I send you TONS of virtual hugs.

QOTD- As kids we used to get to pick our favorite dinner and what flavor of cake we wanted. As an adult we usually go out for dinner, not that it will happen this year. My birthday is January 5 and we were pretty poor growing up so my Christmas and birthday were always combined, and I always felt shorted.

For a change the sun is shining, but it isn't very warm 41 right now. I need to go look at a job so I'll do that next.

Not feeling very festive, but I'll survive. Gyms are closed and restaurants can only do take out. I'm hoping with the vaccine things may get better soon.

Have a great day everyone!
