What's on your Tuesday Menu?
Good morning, everybody!
We binge watched a bunch of Flip or Flop episodes last night, and boy is it awkward.
Normally, we watch true crime shows, but we saw a particularly grizzly one last week and need a bit of a break. You can only see so many bodies put into greasy low-quality suitcases. Plus, for some reason, they dressed the homicide detectives in incredibly preppy outfits. Police just do not wear argyle sweaters and matching scarves to question suspects.
I know that you are all thinking "Jim, how can a show in which a couple flip houses together, while going through a painful divorce possibly be awkward?" Perhaps the purity of the design concept is more important that knowing that your ex-wife is sleeping with the contractor. Or perhaps, they really need the money.
Anyways, everybody who has ever watched Flip or Flop has thought to themselves that Tarek has out kicked his coverage. If he was smart, he would have retired gracefully while they were still dating, and returned to his lane. After a few years he could have looked back wistfully and thought " wow, I don't believe that woman ever let me see her naked - what was she thinking?"
But instead, he pressed forward: they got married, had kids and when the inevitable happened it was all the worse. I don't think he expected it would be a vendor, though. Now they utter incredibly uncomfortable lines like "Christina - I found a fixer upper near the neighborhood where we used to live for $549,900."
Tarek is clearly trying too hard. He has upgraded his wardrobe and is now incredibly overdressed for someone who is putatively doing construction work. He looks ridiculous trying to do demolition work in leather dress sneakers. And his puny hammer swings compared to the actual construction workers are an uncomfortable reminder of this pair's troubled history. Say what you will about shiplap, but Chip Gaines looks like a guy who has done some actual labor.
Christina is now through marriage two and seems equally adrift. I get the sense that she would like Tarek to pursue her again if only so that they can have a heartfelt talk about why they are not good for each other. Tarek isn't taking the bait. Burned once, he's at least smart enough to know that although she is down now, she is still hot enough to end up on some Russian Oligarch's yacht in St. Tropez next summer.
Top 5 Renovation Shows:
1) Rehab Addict - Nicole Curtis got pregnant on a one night stand during a Mexican Beach vacation, in her late 30's, while already a TV star. Who better for a webpage devoted to people who don't always make good choices.
2) Maine Cabinmasters - Friendly Deadheads wandering around the woods of Northern Maine. If I believed there prices were legitimate,I would buy a cabin tomorrow.
3) Good Bones - The Mom has kind of a crazy ride or die chick aura. I don't hate it.
4) Bargain Mansions - A legit real estate developer from Kansas City, who does quality work and is killing it financially.
5) Windy City Rehab - Some love for the local girl. Boobieliscious, but has lost money on almost every project in the last year. Lawsuits, tears and cleavage - its the stuff of life
QOTD: Corned Beef hash skillet. Green Peppers but no onions. And a biscuit with butter. Because there is not enough butter already in the biscuit.
Breakfast: Protein bar
Lunch: Bratwurst
Dinner: TBD
Have a great day, all!

You do crack me up Jim! I like to watch these shows too. On the Christina/Tarek thing, I always thought she was very pretty but from the beginning an incredible B---H. And that he was a bit of a weenie around her, though I liked him better. IMO

Mornin' All!
I have a doctor's appt this morning but...that's it. I just took some stuff out of the freezer that I'll be using for my Christmas dinner. I'll probably make the marinara sauce for the lasagna today, too. Not sure what else I can make this far ahead, but if there's anything, I'll do it! I like cooking, but not when I'm feeling rushed or overwhelmed with all the things that have to be done/made to put a dinner together. At least my sister will be joining us now and wants to make a dish or two. YAY! I also need to clean the living/dining room since we've decided to eat out there at the dining room table. We never use that room, so it's been full of boxes of stuff that belonged to my father than my brother brought a couple of months ago. I have no idea what to do with half of this stuff, so this will be a challenge...
QOTD: I've never been a huge fan of breakfast foods. When we go out for breakfast, I'll usually order something from the lunch menu if it's available - or barring that, something like a yogurt parfait (before surgery, I'd usually order a scone or a muffin). At home pre-surgery I made smoothies all the time - now I usually opt for yogurt with fruit, or one of the WW yogurt pies (either the lemon/blueberry or the cheesecake one)
