Good morning, and happy Friday Eve!
QOTD - umm I think I eat weird by most people's standards. To piggyback on the pancake thing, I like french toast made with just egg, but instead of syrup, I like it with salt and pepper.
Breakfast - fasting, so hot black coffee and water
Lunch - Torfurkey ham and cheese on triscuits with some *****in' sauce, pepitas and dried fruit
Snack - fruit smoothie
Snack - apples and peanut butter
Dinner - kids are here, so working on a menu. Nothing planned yet!
Have a great day y'all!

French toast with salt and pepper sounds great to me! I really want to try that now, haha!

I would eat most of what you talk about making! Most syrups are way overrated!

Morning! I had surgery on Tuesday afternoon and came home yesterday morning. The pain is far worse this time than the last hip, but I'm on the mend I suppose. The food at the ambulatory surgery center is a nightmare for diabetics and bariatric patients. It's made worse by the fact that they give a steroid injection directly into the hip during surgery to control inflammation. So, my blood sugars were 250-300 without any food. I went from 7pm on Monday night until 12pm on Wednesday and ate nothing but a 140 calorie bag of Baked Lays that I nibbled on over the course of many hours. I had brought nuts and jerky with me, but my mouth/throat were so dry from the anti-nausea meds and the breathing tube that I couldn't manage to choke them down. Get this for food options -
Dinner Tuesday Night: Turkey sandwich, Baked Lays, Goldfish Crackers, Teddy Grahams - I tried to nibble the turkey, but just couldn't get it down.
Breakfast Wednesday Morning: Cheerios, Milk, Blueberry Muffin, Orange Juice
Once I was home yesterday I had turkey roll ups, cucumber, cauliflower, and some cottage cheese. Plus coffee with cream that added in some calories. Today, my blood sugar is back down to normal levels (at least without food, I haven't eaten yet).
Last surgery I was able to manage with only Tylenol, but I had to take half a pain pill last night and actually slept pretty well.
I have very little idea what food I'll be eating today. Coffee so far, and I'm sure I'll be eating more turkey and veggies because it's easy for the kids to prepare for me on the fly. My appetite is off anyway.
QOTD: When I was a kid I loved pan fried venison heart. My mother's BFF was our babysitter and her husband was an avid hunter. At least 1-2 times per season he would get a deer and bring home the fresh heart to share. SO GOOD. We are not hunters and therefore I haven't had it in many years.

You don't still have the recipe for that Venison heart do you? DH is hunting right now so I see venison in my future.
Your food nightmare at the surgery center is ridiculous. I had a friend who spent some time in a nursing facility after having part of her foot amputated do to Diabetes and they feed her French toast sticks and syrup for every breakfast. That crap is crazy. When I had my hernia surgery I would scream at them for the food they brought but I would get the nurses to find me protein shakes in the kitchen and feed me that. Health care dieticians. Really?
Wishing you a speedy recovery. Glad your home and can feed your needs.
HW 299 SW 290 CW 139 GW 140 2/08/2019 OPERATION: Surgical Hernia with excision of total surface area of 55 x 29 cm of abdominal skin.
According to the nurses there, they have very little food options in the ambulatory surgery center vs the hospital. Everything is boxed and sent over vs serving hot meals. The nurse told me that my husband could bring in food or I could even get delivery. But honestly, I don't know that part of the city well enough to figure it out while post surgery and my appetite was off anyway.
For the venison we cut it into thin strips the long way and fried in butter, salt, and pepper. That was it!
