Staple tearing

I made dinner tonight and grilled a couple pot hops and steamed some vegetables. I took a couple little bites of the pie hop and made sure to chew. I also ate a couple florets or broccoli/cauliflower. So not very much not even a half of a cup. I started getting cramping pains in my chest and in my stomach. They would come and go. It lasted for about 10 minutes and then I went to the bathroom and kind of made myself throw up. Not much came I seen a little broccoli and some little pieces of meat. But in that I also seen some red that I'm pretty sure was blood. It wasn't a lot but it was noticeable. Now it has me worried, I shouldn't be throwing up blood. So I don't know if something is wrong or if I should go get it checked out. I feel better now and don't have the cramping. But the blood has me kind of worried. My surgery was on the 7th of October. This past week I have been eating tuna/refried beans for the most part. I figured if I chewed well enough I'd be okay. So if you guys could help with this I would appreciate it. I was wondering if I should go to the ER to check since this is the last day of my insurance since I got laid off from aircraft. Sorry for the long message. Thanks in advance!

You should call you medical team and get their input for certain. I saw you're other post saying you're not as concerned because you aren't feeling any other effects and hopefully you're correct but if you've having internal bleeding you may or may not feel that; same with if there's a tear or something that leads to infection -- you might not feel it until it's advanced. You're under a month out and it's better to be checked out. Do you have an after hours number you can call and talk to someone on your medical team?

I had surgery in October. A lady who had it the same day was at a holiday party in early December at the school where she was the principal. During the party she needed to use the restroom and went upstairs to use the personal restroom in her office.
When she did not come back to the party, someone went to check on her. They found her unconscious and lying in a pool of blood that was coming from her rectum.
She was taken to the hospital by ambulance. They found that her staples had leaked. The digestive fluids were leaking into her abdomen. Her family was called and told to say their last farewell, because it was not certain she would survive the repair surgery. She did pull through the surgery. I have seen my surgeon cry when he talks about a staple leak.
With a staple leak, you can be very sick very fast. It is one of the worst complications that can happen. By the time you feel anything, you may be too sick to get help. At the hospital they will do test to be sure that the staples have not leaked. Having any blood is not normal. If there is a leak, it will not fix itself.

Trust me I know and remember vividly how awful excess food withdrawal was after my WLS. It was so bad I picked up alcohol which wasted literally years of my life .
I too ate stuff I wasn?t supposed to and ended up rehospitalized with what may have been a blockage but was thank God resolved with days of enforced bed rest ( and the prescribed liquid diet ) and round the clock intravenous fluids.
Otherwise my surgeon would have been forced to open me up again which could have been a health disaster .
My advice to you - stick to liquids and mush .
Refried beans w fresh salsa n low-fat cheese are delicious and filling.
Cottage cheese especially the fat free kind is yummy nutritious low cal and filling.
Homemade chicken soup out of organic chicken broth w a chicken soup cube added and a bit of parsley is yummy too as is easy French Onion soup ( they sell it frozen in Trader Joe's just take off the frozen cheese or make your own by sweating around 4 large onions chopped till golden and adding organic beef broth and maybe half a beef cube ( to taste ) .
I like to add Kraft fat free shredded cheddar cheese to the top ... and toast " croutons" . There's also Colby's 75 % fat free sharp cheddar cheese bricks also in the dairy section ... a delicious and low fat choice .
Broccoli and cauliflower and salads are a lot more fiber than your pouch can handle while it?s healing .
Please keep in mind that internal healing takes 8 full weeks! Just baby yourself till then - and concentrate on walking every time you can . You will heal faster and much happier with the endorphins released by even a little bit of exercise.
I would definitely call my team and go in if they recommend it. Please don't imagine they will judge you or yell at you .
Trust me they've seen a lot worse in the noncompliance department than a guy who tried to eat healthy fiber and vegetables too fast . Hugs
