Friday night Fish Fry goes back to Catholic roots of no meat on Friday. Still strong in the Midwest.
My DIL's parents (In Wisconsin) run the fish fry during Lent at the local Parish and serve 1500 meals a week. I think they go through 7000 pounds of fish during Lent.

yes - it's originally a Catholic thing. I swear I think about 45% of our state is Catholic, and another 45% i****heran (it was settled by Scandinavians and Germans, so..), and then the rest is a smattering of other things. Or at least that's been the case historically. From what I understand, the taverns started Friday night fish fries during the Prohibition to keep themselves in business. The taverns needed customers - and the Catholics at that time were restricted to fish on Fridays, so...ta da! And it stuck.
(taverns are ubiquitous here as well. They're different from bars, even though both serve alcohol. Taverns also serve (a lot of...) food, too - and families are welcome (unlike in bars...), so people bring their kids along. They're kind of community gathering places in smaller towns and rural areas. We used to always say that every village of any size in Wisconsin has a Catholic church, and Lutheran church, and a tavern!
Friday Night Fish Fry is where everyone goes in Ohio, especially during Lent. The men of the parish cook the fish and fries, the women bake cakes and pies. There is always coleslaw or mac and cheese. Students usually are the waitresses and busboys. It is a big fund raiser for the churches.

Mernin' y'all.
QOTD - I live in San Antonio TX, so the first thing that comes to mind is tacos. I'm going to go with that because I love tacos. I will say, this year has seen an explosion in vegan restaurants, locally owned and for a place like SA, that's huge. SO many options!
Breakfast - fasting, so hot black coffee and water
Lunch - leftover vegan pad thai with tofu
Snack - 1/2 bagel with hummus, everything bagel seasoning
Snack - cherry tomatoes, triscuits, dairy free yogurt with hemp seed hearts
Snack - Fruit smoothie - frozen fruit, kale, oat milk, turmeric, ginger, vegan honey and cayenne pepper
Dinner - Thai rice with sauteed onion, yellow squash and onions (homemade)
Have a good day everyone!

Jealous! I want to live where tacos are the local food! They are a lot more ubiquitous than they used to be, but it's still not the easiest thing to find around here.
I grew up on breakfast tacos, even our local BBQ place has breakfast tacos in the morning. Nothing like a good, fat dusty tortilla filled with some goodness at any time. I love tacos, they are literally one of my favorite foods. I never think about how lucky I am to live here, until traveling somewhere else and I'm like "What do you mean, what kind of toast do I want? I want tortillas...and beans..."
