They have multiple testing centers. In the Los Angeles area, they're usually set up in hotel ballrooms. Same long tables, but they're now almost 100% computerized. When I took the exam they were only in the test phase on laptops and I didn't want to risk it. They told you that if the software failed mid exam, you'd have to fini**** with pen and paper. I decided to just take it that way.
Funny, but I was originally set to take it at a nice hotel in Pasadena, CA, but switched locations since my best friend in law school was assigned to Pomona, so I switched so we could share a hotel room

Ugh. My endocrinologist's office just called. I'm STILL excreting way too much calcium (better than my previous test a couple of months ago- but still well above the normal range). I'm only taking 500 mg/day now (down from at first 2000. Then 1000) - and I have osteoporosis. So you'd think I'd need way more than 500 mg. But.. They think I'm absorbing a lot more from my food and my multivitamin (which only has calcium carbonate in it) than the average bariatric patient - so now they said to wait until evening to take calcium, and take 0-500 mg depending on how much calcium I eat during the day (and I do eat a lot of greek yogurt - plus protein shakes have it). And then I get to take yet ANOTHER one of these 24-hour tests in another couple of months. I'm a little weirded out, but I suppose of all medical specialties, endocrinologists would have the most knowledge of these kinds of things, so, I'll do what she says...
I was diagnosed with ostepoenia and my endo increased my calcium to 3000 mg per day. He's a little freaked out by my numbers and my bone scans which show bone loss, because of my age, the fact that I do weight bearing exercises and eat a diet ri*****alcium. I haven't done a 24 hour urine test recently, and have a bone scan at the end of the year. He's considering doing a biopsy of my parathyroid because all my labs indicate I'm borderline for hypoparathyroidism. Have you had yours checked?
they just check my PTH numbers - no biopsies yet. It was 43 this time - up from 39 before, which bothered me a little. i know that it's still well within the normal range, but it's trending the wrong way. it could be due to the fact that she cut my calcium supplementation from 1000 down to 500, though. And she didn't see a problem with the PTH level. At least we're doing blood and urine tests every couple of months so we can correct things before they cause problems.
I did get my annual infusion of Reclast a couple of weeks ago, though - not sure if that's affecting anything or not. Well, at least she's continuing to monitor things every couple of months. I'm kind of freaked out by this.
