Steroid advice?

I know that some of you have had to take steroids either by pill or shots. I've had one in my back at the beginning of the year and have one scheduled for the 16th. The NP also thinks my neurosurgeon might have me take it orally too.
Does anyone have any tips on how to handle the side effects? I get really drastic hot sweats and cold chills. My blood sugars of course react wildly. I want to be more prepared and was just looking for tips! Thanks!

No advice, but reading the title I thought we are talking about you-know-who and his steroid consumption. I was already rubbing my hands and sitting down with a virtual hoping for some "news"!
Big hugs to you!

I meant to address your post more but had to hit enter quickly. OMG! He is on a role with his buffoonery! I've heard the term "roid rage" so many times in the past few days. Hahahaha

Since last summer, I've had a couple of cortisone shots in my back for a bulging disc and I've done a few courses of prednisone. When I do the oral prednisone, I start out with a high dose and taper it off in the course of a week. For my own self, I haven't noticed any issues with blood sugar, but I do need to eat a little something when I take it. Mostly I notice water retention.
Make sure to ask questions and share your blood sugar concerns with your doc. Good luck with your treatment. That kind of pain is the worst I've ever had.

Thank you! I will be telling him my concerns today at my appointment. I had back surgery in July and I think I need more. It was just a decompression and I still have 3 or 4 big bulging disc and arthritis in my lumbar region. I know I'll always have arthritis but it is still hurting pretty badly.
thanks again, it is appreciated!

Just got back from seeing my neurosurgeon. Basically I'm screwed. If my appeal doesn't work I'll just have to be in pain. If it does I'll likely be getting a stimulator implanted(if the trial period works). He pretty much acted like I'm a plague and he doesn't want to do much more surgery because it might not help. He said I have a ton of arthritis and pinching still but.....
I don't even know what I'm feeling right now.
