Here is how my surgeon explained the no drinking before meals bit. He said it happened because it is important not to drink for 30 minutes after eating. But he said that surgeons in the earlier days of weight loss surgery thought that "fat" people were not very smart. So they did not think they would remember the difference between not drinking before meals and not drinking after meals.

So to make it simple they would just say not to drink before and after meals. Your pouch or sleeve has an opening at both ends and the water just flows right out. There is no reason at all not to drink right up until the minute that you start eating.

I find it hard to believe that your program says not to drink before meals.

This Video is the best explanation of why we don't drink after meals. The longer you wait to put liquid in the longer you will feel full.

I have been able to eat bananas as soon as I could eat mashed foods after surgery and they have never seemed to cause me any issues. My plan also has the 30/30 rule and I still follow it (stop 30 mins before and wait until 30 mins after).

My surgeon didn't tell us to avoid any specific foods. I was also told not to drink after eating for at least 30 minutes. I started having a banana most days because I use it in my WW egg/banana pancake. WW recommends that we not have more than one a day, but it is a really good substitute in lots of foods making them less caloric.

Mine is just no drinking for 30 min after. For the first several months it was before and after but once I was done healing, it became just after. When I asked about it, they said the before was just during healing/training your brain. The after is so the liquid doesn't flush food through faster but the before really isn't a thing because fluids go right through our pouches (also part of why alcohol hits so hard).

i can have bananas but I try to minimize them because of RH and they really eat into my available carbs, so I just consider them an occasional treat.

Good morning JB and Menuers,

Pants. LOL I think it is funny that people get anxiety over putting on pants. I did not WFH so I do not know how this feels. On my Morning Radio Station they were doing power rankings of there top 5 Looney Tune Characters and Bob picked Porky Pig because he doesn't wear pants. Is this a sign from the Loony Tune world that we should wear pants ? Just putting it out there.

I baked a bunch of cookies this week to give to different people who deserve them. DH has appointment with Pain Management today that he needs to take some and a lady here at work it's her birthday and I wanted to give her some but I brought them in and she is off till Tuesday. G'morning everybody!

That meme cracked me up. Pre WLS I had many instances like that. Good luck today in the office. Funny how we get excited about little things these days. I was excited yesterday about getting the flu shot.

Well, the big news in our household is that we might not be empty nesters for long. Typical me, just yesterday I was saying how good empty nest is treating us. DS's college had a sudden increase of positive patients, 64 to be exact. The majority are from off campus housing and the partying that happened since school started. The school decided to "pause" for 4 weeks, meaning all classes on line. There was a small percentage of classes, labs mainly, that were done in person so those classes are cancelled. I hope it works because it would be a real bummer if they sent everybody home. The kids who had all classes online or didn't go to these parties will pay for those who are not following the rules. DS for now is OK and staying put. The school has room for 140 patients to quarantine them. I think if the number goes higher than that everybody will be sent home.

QOTD: Nectarine is my favorite summer fruit, and banana is all year round. But haven't had many of them since surgery. Nowadays berries would be my choice.

My meals yesterday:

  • B: scrambled eggs + coffee
  • L: TJ shrimp stir fry
  • S: WW chocolate muffin
  • D: Kung Pao chicken (no rice)
  • E: 30 minutes cardio + 50 minutes strength training

Happy almost Fri-yay, everybody.

Oh man that just sucks about the number of positive cases already. It's so inevitable though--how can you take a bunch of socially starved teenagers and let them loose without supervision and expect that they would do anything except for party with one another? Undeveloped frontal lobes and all... sigh. Shut it all down.

My sister who is 59 seems to be suffering from undeveloped frontal lobes. She gets tested at work every two weeks and then walks into other people's houses saying that she knows she does not have the virus. Maybe some people never develop properly.

The college in my city is being hit with hundreds of positive cases. The city is losing its mind on either end...both from the citizens who live and work with the students and the citizens who are employed by the college at varying capacities who are terrified of losing their jobs. It is a mess.
