My entire friend group at dedicated foodies (and wine lovers). I continue to join them at all events, I just choose what I consume. It really hasn't stopped me from doing anything socially that I used to do and it's opened a whole world of experiences I didn't know I was missing!

For about the first year you have to deal with people asking questions and commenting but it goes away. You only need to share what you are comfortable with. I didn't tell anyone but my husband. I talked about it when I was going to do it in 2015 and I got opinions from people who know nothing about it. Educate yourself to the best of your ability knowledge is power.
you said:Why is this good for me?

It can add years to your life. Your health is Guaranteed to get better. You obviously failed at many other diets in the past or you would Not be researching this. It works as long as you follow the program set forth by your surgeon. Make sure you do this for yourself and not for any other reason. Stay here at OH and keep asking questions all of us are so passionate about are decisions and this is our way of helping others get through it. When you are 6 months from surgery you'll look back and laugh.
BTW I host parties all the time. I got out of the hospital 12/21 and cooked Christmas dinner for 10. Once your healed it's not that hard. You'll see. I wish you all the best.

I don't regret it for one second, and I'd do it every year if I had to. Getting rid of that extra 200 lbs I was carrying around for years is the best thing I've ever done for myself!

Once I got into maintenance, I could pretty much eat any food I could before surgery, but of course I eat it in smaller quantities now. And I do have trouble stomaching really fatty meals, so I avoid them now (e.g., a fish fry - with breaded and deep fried fish fillets with a mound of French fries and cole slaw made with mayo would be a no-go for me. But most things I can still eat...).

There have been a handful of times that I've eaten something so good that I wish I could have kept eating...and eating...and eating.... but feeling like I do now and being able to do things like ride a bike and kayak and not worry about fitting into airline seats or breaking chairs or sticking out like a sore thumb in a group or having kids (or sometimes adults) make insulting remarks is worth any "sacrifice" I've had to make. I can't believe how much better my life is now. I should have done this YEARS ago!

I am right there with you! I am about 2 weeks from (hopefully) submitting my paperwork to my insurance comapny for all the required documentation for approvals. Covid kind of put a damper on things and I was delayed for a bit so I am hoping that my telemedicine appointments will still count! Best of luck to you!!

Please go to your doctor's support group meeting and ask his/her patients what they think of him before you have surgery. If I had gone to a meeting before surgery I would have seen the poor results his patients had. One woman even had a feeding tube coming out of her abdomen. Tons of extra surgeries and procedures. I stopped back into meetings several times over a couple of years. Finally he stopped doing bariatric surgery. I didn't sue him but I think a bunch of people might have. Tri Harder
