Surgery Tomorrow
Tomorrow morning I have my surgery at 10 am. I have lost almost 15 lbs from the 2 week liquid protein diet. I am a little nervous but very hopeful. I had a lap band from 2001-2019 and maintained my weight at 162. I am 5'8". Unfortunately, when that band came off, the weight began to pile on til I was back up to 207. I am trying not to fixate on the little things that could go wrong during the surgery. I am also getting a hiatal hernia repair that is greatly needed. Wish me luck!

Thank you so much! I am having an RNY. I really enjoy reading your posts. They are super informative! I had really bad GERD the last year my lap band was on, and unfortunately, it caused me to develop Barrett's Esophagus. This surgery is likely to end the GERD and keep my Barrett's from worsening from the research I have read and according to my surgeon.
So glad that this is being addressed. RNY gives you a window of malabsorption that lasts about eighteen months. Take full advantage of that time to lose as much excess weight as possible.
I believe your best strategy is to go about twenty pounds below what you want your lifetime goal weight to be. There is a bounceback regain period after the malabsorption period. That usually results in a 20 pound regain and you will not be sorry that you had that 20 pound cushion.
