Whats on your Monday Menu?
on 6/8/20 2:51 am
Morning everyone!
I had another VERY nice weekend. Yay! I cooked and cleaned and exercised and crafted and relaxed... It's really amazing how the combination of a waking up from terrible job last year plus a global pandemic has really taught me how to enjoy weekends in a way I never have before. For the first time in my life, I am completely unplugged from work and instead of using weekends to "crash" they are a relaxing but productive few days now. (I feel like this might be the third Monday in a row when I have marveled at this phenomenon, but it is still so new and exciting, haha.)
I did a ton of cooking this weekend, and even portioned out my meals like I used to when I was leaving the house, so hopefully this sets me up for less grazing! I am also going to plan on really low point days and that way if I eat a peice of Grim's bread I am not going over my points and have a cushion. I have been SO good about avoiding his baking but sometimes I am powerless. Sourdough week was a BIG success (see below). My man can bake!
QOTD: What is your favorite historical period to learn about? I have been interested in turn of the century America for a long time--especially that time in New York City. My favorite museum in the world is the Tenement Museum on the Lower East Side in Manhattan, where they have recreated a real city block with the apartments of the different immigrant groups who lived there before and after 1900. I also love reading about the Guilded Age in America and seeing how the super rich lived at that time. I love visiting the Newport Mansions and I have recently been reading more books about this time period.
Morning! I have a busy work day planned, which makes me cringe a little because I also have a ton of homework to get done this week and a midterm to take this weekend. My daughter had a socially distant dance recital this week, but we otherwise just hung out around the house and it was really nice.
QOTD: I'm not a history buff, but I love to read historical fiction about the WWII era. Most of it, of course, is written about countries other than the United States but I'm fascinated by all view points of that era. I recently took a history class called American History to 1877. The biggest thing I took away from it was how "whitewashed" my first go-round with US history had been. I learned so much that they weren't teaching when I graduated high school nearly 20 years ago.
My Food:
- Coffee w/ Cream x3
- Eggs, Sausage, Cheese, Strawberries
- Beef Tenderloin, I think and veggies
I'm planning on a 3 mile walk this morning. I need to get going soon before it warms up. I have an appointment for my hip on Thursday and I'm planning on it being good and irritated when I go! I'm sick of waiting around for them to do something.

Good luck with your busy day!
I have never been a WWII buff at all but after reading All the Light We Cannot See a few years ago, I definitely can see myself becoming more interested in it.
Good morning everybody!
I am posting from my phone this morning, which is bound to end in tears.
I m not to sure on the menu, because we will be on the road today.
QOTD: I like history, generally. As I slowly make my way through Volume 3 of Will and Ariel Durant' story of Civilization, I am reading about the Roman era. But, I think I like learning about the Renaissance era. Maybe just because I loved visiting Florence and Sienna so much.

Good morning all! Well the weekend went by in the blink of an eye for me. Can't believe it's already Monday here again. Another busy week ahead. My accountability was pretty good yesterday. Wasn't perfect, but wasn't horrible.
QOTD: I never really got into history much. I don't dislike it. I just never was fascinated by it so it's difficult for me to answer this question. I feel like every time period I have learned about had it's own interesting aspect. I just can't pinpoint one particular period from the rest.

Good morning, Happy Monday.
QOTD - Texas History (an actual class for a year here in Middle School) used to be my favorite, until as an adult I learned how skewed and glorified some parts were, while others were barely mentioned. I love Texas, proud to be a Texan but damn our history is problematic and twisted.
Breakfast - hot black coffee, topo chico and cold brew. I just discovered cold brew and it's amazing.
Lunch - Leftover vegan pizza, and a mandarin
Snack - fruit smoothie
Dinner - Pasta, veggies, avocado butter
I hope everyone has a good day!
Christina

I had no idea that TX is the only state to require its history be taught in elementary school until recently. Here in MA we get our state history because... it's hard to talk about US History without it, haha... But I had never considered that most states don't have a specifi****il about themselves! It's interesting.
