What's on your Wednesday Menu?
I feel for you on the project. The last couple of years before I retired I was in charge of a horrible technology project where bad decisions were made at every turn. When the technology options were voted on, the prioritization committee chose what they thought was the cheap option vs the right one. The cheap development option used a team that never brought anything in on time and never included all features. When the project started getting behind and the quality suffered as was pretty much guaranteed, everyone was finger pointing. So I was glad to get out of it when I retired. When they asked if I wanted to contract at a high rate with a schedule/location fully my choice and continue running the project I said a big NO THANKS! I was lucky that I had the option to do that.

Good Morning! JB- that vacation plan sounds awesome. One summer I took Tues and Thurs off for like 6 weeks to break up the daycare situation for Emily and it worked pretty well. The only downfall was that my covering partners didn't end up covering things very well for me because the mindset was "well Kelly will be back tomorrow so it can wait".

Have a great one!
I had my DNA done last year and it came back 100% Irish. My father was born in Ireland and most of his family stayed there, so I have lots of cousins to see when I visit there. There was a story I heard growing up about my great grandmother. She was said to be an evil woman who locked her husband outside during a blizzard and he was found frozen to death the next morning.
In my research, I learned that my great grandfather was a bricklayer who worked building the sewers in Boston. I found his death record and that he had died in a hospital in Boston. The cause of death was typhoid fever and he died in August. That ruled out the story that he had come home drunk and Bridget had locked him out in the cold.
After I did my DNA, I was contacted by one of Bridget's nieces who now lives in England. She said her Aunt Bridget was a wonderful lady who took care of many elderly people. I think genealogy can be a lot of fun and a great hobby.
Real life begins where your comfort zone ends
in the little that I've done, I've run across some family secrets. Like a few divorces - some were married young and divorced after a year or two - and then went on to marry someone else whom they stayed married to for life. I'm not even sure their kids knew - my mother certainly didn't know about these previous marriages of some of her relatives (don't know about my father since he's passed). But divorce was hugely stigmatized back then, so I'm not surprised it was hidden. Also, I found out my great grandmother was three months pregnant when she got married. Horrors! My mother and uncle were shocked when I told them - and they said their mother would have been shocked as well (my grandmother being kind of a Victorian prude!). No one else in the family knew this. But the baby she was pregnant with died at age four, when my grandmother (the second child) was an infant. I found the first child's death certificate, as well as my great grandparent's marriage record, and noticed the kid's birthday was six months after they got married. It's hard enough to keep an infant who was born three months early alive today, let alone 100 years ago - so she was almost certainly pregnant before she got married. Whoops! Anyway, it's kind of fun to stumble across things like this...
Good morning JB and Menuers,
Well if that Meme is the truth I shall be spared. No weight gain here.
I just love the way life slowed down though. I have not felt rushed about anything. There is no where to go so how could I feel rushed. I was telling my mom on Saturday we don't even have to get out of the pool to go to a wedding or graduation party. It is so nice not to have to do for others and do for myself. I actually am loving life in these times.
QOTD: I am Polish Slovenian on my Mom's side and Italian on my Dad's side. I am a Member of the Son's of Italy and the SNPJ (Slovenian organization) I would say I am connected to my heritage when it comes to traditions and definitely in the way I cooked pre surgery. I miss most pasta from the Italian and I miss perogies from the Polish and Slovenian side.
