Whats On Your Saturday Menu RNYers (and a few VSGers:)
I hope your Memorial Day weekend is starting well. Here in Massachusetts we have rain after a week of incredibly beautiful days. But the beaches are open in my Cape Cod town!!! The parking lots have been blocked off to 50% capacity, but I think I will be able to get days in especially in the middle of the week.
Since all travels and appointments I had planned for June have been cancelled, I may go back to Florida for a few weeks with DD. Hopefully the self-quarantine after travel would be over by the time I come back. I will decide in the next week.
QOTD: What's the grossest food you ever had to eat to be polite? The one I remember most is canned beets. We never had them in my house growing up and to me they smell and taste like dirt. I was at a friends house for dinner. I did what I was always told to do and ate everything on my plate. So they gave me a second serving including beets! Yuck!

Good morning!
QOTD - I think I am going to have to second the beets. I cannot STAND them, and my grandma loved them...
Breakfast - broke fast at 16 hours today since I was hungry! I had a vegan pig in a blanket (vegan hot dog, chao cheese wrapped and baked in a biscuit, topped with everything bagel)
Lunch - homemade cabbage soup, lentils and chao cheese on top
Snack - fruits - grapes, mandarins and some cottage cheese with crackers
Dinner - up in the air, but probably pasta and veggies for me, pasta, veggies and meat for rest of family.
Hope everyone has a good day!
Christina
Let it begin with me.

I love beets! Home roasted are the best. Starting our second full day here in Vegas. The little restaurants are open at 50% capacity. However, in a weird way, you cannot sit at the bar area, no service in that area and NO TOUCHING! They are super serious about the bar area. Just kind of weird. The health department is in super high inspection mode. Checking and re-checking each establishment. Our servers have been all excited to be at work, but not loving wearing the masks. We went to a boutique Spanish Tapas place last night. The food was amazing. I took a small bite of several things and for the first time experienced sadness at not being able to indulge. Without a doubt this was the best food I have had since surgery and the first thing to wake up my taste buds. I didn't over eat, had a glass of wine that I maybe drank 1-2 ounces of, and felt like part of the party. So good. So, so good! I couldn't figure out how to log it, So I called it 500 calories and called it a day. Today is hanging out by the pool and then going to kid's house for dinner.
QOTD: no doubts here for me. Fried venison. Cold. With a hangover. We were visiting customers and one had brought in venison that he hunted then cooked. I don't eat game meat and cold greasy Bambi almost made me lose it. Still shuddering when I think about that.
Menu is up in the air, but I will continue my goal of selecting the simplest, minimal ingredient protein on the menu and wing it as I go. Having my protein coffee in the hotel room right now, and we'll go from there.
Peace, everyone!

Good afternoon all! Took my morning walk on the beach. Only walked a little over 2 miles so hopefully I'll get another walk in later. May try to do some swimming. Accountability has been horrible. Apparently just because I'm on vacation I think I can eat whatever I want. I am NOT looking forward to going back home and stepping on the scale. I wanted to go on vacation and not worry about calories and such for once, but it's so hard. Like I want to enjoy this time and indulge a little, but I don't know when to stop and I end up feeling guilty. It's a constant battle. Like the food isn't even worth it, but in the moment it's hard to resist when everyone else around me is indulging. Sigh...
QOTD: There isn't much I don't like aside from olives, licorice and tapioca pudding. Yuck! I can tolerate olives although they aren't my favorite, but the other two no thank you! Oh and I'm not particularly fond of peanut butter ice cream. Love peanut butter, but not in ice cream.
B: coffee w/Splenda and a donut.....ugh!
L: maybe some egg salad....will try to eat lite.
D: not sure yet, but maybe a pineapple burger without the bun.
S: L&F yogurt or a premier shake
Surgery: RNY on 1/23/19
Started off as a rainy day but it is beautiful out now. I got a really nice peaceful walk in. The beaches opened here this weekend at the Jersey Shore!!! You will not catch me there though, I'm sure it is super packed.
My stepmom cut me and my boy's hair today. We couldn't wait for the barber shops to open. The boys looked like Shaggy Dog.
QOTD: What's the grossest food you ever had to eat to be polite? Hmmm I think it was brussel sprouts. I've tried them a few times but I just don't like them at all.
B: Mocha Cappuccino protein shake
L: Matrix mint cookie protein shake
D: Asparagus Stuffed Chicken
S: Arugula salad/Syntrax Nectar apple protein drink
64 oz. water
Mornin'!
I've been dealing with a stray cat rescue situation with a neighbor I didn't know before she posted something about the cat on our neighborhood FB page. My MIL is in the market for a cat, which I is why I contacted this woman. Well, my MIL isn't sure she wants her because she looks "old" and she's afraid the cat may have health issues, but I told her I'd take her to the vet's to be checked out - and pay for it myself - if it would make a difference. As far as being old, I think it's hard for even vets to tell unless they're really young or ancient (and I don't think this cat is either). Anyway, I've been over at this woman's house twice now to see the cat. The cat is absolutely adorable - and SUPER friendly. I took her over to my vet's office to be scanned for a microchip since these neighbors are new and don't have a vet yet. Well, the cat does have a microchip, so I called the microchip company last night, and they'll contact the owner and give them my contact info. Nothing yet. I wonder how long we should give them to respond? A week? Ten days? I just left a message with the humane society to see what they recommend (our humane society is closed due to the pandemic, and they're limiting intakes because they don't have staff to deal with them all while they're closed). So the woman and I will try to rehome her after the "waiting period", because my MIL is being too finicky, as usual (she's missed out on several cats she finally decided she wanted because she waited so long to decide that someone else adopted them). Anyway, that's been my life lately.
I had a take out lunch with my friend with the hip surgery earlier today (so brunch, really), and we're taking our bikes in for a years-overdue tune-up as soon as DH gets done mowing the lawn. We're supposed to get heavy rains today and tomorrow, so hopefully we can get all this done before it starts.
QOTD: I remember some awful spaghetti that my aunt made once when I was a kid. My father didn't like it, either. I loved spaghetti and can't imagine how someone could screw it up badly, BUT...she managed. I also had to choke down a lot of awful beef when I was volunteering in Africa a few years ago. I think they boil it, at least in my village they did, and it gets all stringy and tasteless. They also serve the beef with mounds of this mush made of cornmeal that is equally tasteless. Other than that, I hate game meat, lamb, watercress, bitter melon - but fortunately I've never had to eat any of that to be polite. I did try escargot and beef tartare once. I was freaked out about doing it, but they weren't bad. Not sure I'd eat them again, but they were OK.

Good afternoon menu friends.
according the results on the patient portal I do have a uti. Yay. Now I have to wait until Tuesday to see if they'll give me meds. Not to happy about that. If I didn't have to I would not go to this clinic. They help pay the bill for my eye care specialist that Medicaid doesn't fully cover. I feel like I don't matter and it's because to them...well I don't lol. It's a sad state our medical system is in. I'll stop before I get hot headed.
i went way off course yesterday with food. Back to being better today. I had a few cookies and a piece of tortilla.
hoping to get a nap in today...I doubt it but I can hope. Good news though...I think...I was approved for a surgery...I just don't know which one yet. Hoping to get something in the mail to see what the heck is going on. With it being Memorial Day everyone was in a rush to get home that works in medical offices. I hope to hear Tuesday. I have to have it before august 20th so it'll be sometime before then.
