Her AP class is Euro History. I guess her test can take up to 4 hours tomorrow, it is "open book" but essay format of some sort.

According to my daughter, who took seven APs in high school, AP euro history was the hardest. Go Em!

Hi All!

yes - the opening up terrifies me. Luckily, our governor has continued the shutdown until May 26 (although he's tweaked it slightly - he's now allowing more types of stores to open - but only for delivery and curbside pickup), but he's under enormous pressure from these yahoos who want everything wide open. And our state legislature (GOP controlled) sued - it's now going through the state supreme court (not sure why since by the time the decision is made, May 26th will probably already be here - or gone!). With all the public health experts warning us that all the re-openings are going to cause a massive spike in virus cases, I'm really worried. Why do people distrust health experts so much?? I honestly wish I lived in another country right now - this is truly frightening. Luckily I'm retired, so I can stay in my house. And DH will probably be able to continue working from home this summer, since summer school classes at his university have been cancelled. Why have everyone go into the office if there are no students there? I suppose traffic at grocery stores and pharmacies will stay about the same, since they've been open all along. And I'm very grateful for Costco's mask policy - I feel safe in there. I'm not planning on making any changes...

I'll be going over to my friend's when I'm done with this - the one who had the hip replacement surgery. She wants me there in the mornings for a few hours to help with bathing and getting her compression stockings on - and running any errands that she needs done. Luckily she's able to do a fair amount for herself - like getting to the bathroom and prepping meals - so this isn't going to require as much time & energy on my part as I was anticipating. Her dog comes back home tomorrow, so I'll be walking her in the mornings. One of her neighbors is going to take over dog walking in the afternoon and evenings. So this shouldn't be too bad...

QOTD: I'm kind of quiet around people at first but then open up when I get to know them (that is, if like them!). I think it's some Scandinavian/Upper Midwestern thing (and a lot of Upper Midwesterners are of Scandinavian descent, so there may be a connection there). So I'm not sure if people's first impression of me is always accurate.

TSS: 4y11m

B: I'm taking it with me to my friend's so I can eat it late (the not-eating-breakfast-until 10:00-or-later has helped me manage my calories better...). I don't want to take anything messy, so I may just take a couple of containers of L&F yogurt

S1: protein shake

L: 2 Costco chicken skewers with homemade peanut sauce

S2: maybe a piece of yogurt pie with strawberry compote (I made almond pie this time - with SF vanilla pudding and almond extract)

D: Beyond Burger with skinny bun, lettuce, and light Thousand Island

ex: walking for sure. And I REALLY should do weights - I've been majorly slacking off on this lately!

Sounds like your friends hip replacement went remarkably well. That is great news. Glad she is able to fend for herself and has a great friend like you.

Oh, glad you are onto something re:allergies! If the deep cleaning doesn't work, shopping time!

qotd - people that meet me professionally think I'm sterner than I am and people that meet me personally think I'm nicer than I am, lol.

i am worried about the reopening, I think there is a way to move forward even without the full testing that we really need but it has to be small steps and everyone has to be masking and social distancing and we need to be willing to make the appropriate sacrifices for the vulnerable -- which means those people and those caring for/in close proximity need to be safe guarded even more extremely. Sadly, we seem to be a nation of selfish idiots that can't understand that if everyone does the right thing we all are better for it. But that's true in so many areas isn't it? I am astonished by how exactly like the 1918 flu all this is, even to the anti-mask brigade and government leaders caving to the terroristic threats.

for my attempts at re-entry, i am treating it a bit like allergy testing - I'm going to start back at Pilates because they are following the rules, but it's the only "new" thing I'm going to do for the 14 days and I'll isolate every where else. See how that goes. Fortunately, I can work from home and we're not even talking about volunteers to go into the office. I'm very fortunate.

menu today features a lot of left overs!

chicken green chili from the freezwr

bunless burger from sunday

everroast deli chicken with a slice of cheddar and a pickle

light and fit greek and half and half in my coffee

ex - I did a short 22 minute pyramid trek and then 15 minutes on manual, high resistance, high incline. I am a sweaty Betty right now!

have a great Tuesday

G'morning everybody!

JB - sorry for all the allergy woes. Definitely clean the couch. DS also suffers from allergies and the culprit was his bed. So we got special mattress and pillow covering that can be removed and washed frequently.

I am very worried about the reopening. I saw a pic of a restaurant (I can't remember which state) that for Mother's Day was PACKED, like in the old days, and nobody was wearing masks. The owner said thank you for coming out, this is our constitutional right. Sheesh! I also saw a tweet that actually spoke to me; it is good to know people talking about staying home vs reopening if those at home keep earning a salary. The context is important.

QOTD: people usually think I'm friendly and easy going, and that's the case most of the times. What they don't see right away is that if you rub me the wrong way the Italian hot blooded side comes unleashed.

My meals yesterday:

  • B: Costco egg bites
  • L: chicken skewer + Fage yogurt
  • S: hb egg
  • D: Vegetarian chili
  • E: 6 miles walk

Happy Tuesday!

I vacuumed the couch with the Dyson and it pulled out a **** ton of dust. I am grossed out. But I feel a billion times better today!

1000000% agree that context counts and I don't mean to sound like a privileged snob about it... I know I am lucky to have the choice. I guess I just wish that our government would start bailing out people and put a better effort towards small business support, instead of airlines and cruise ships so that we'd be okay to wait until it is safe.

I didn't mean what I said in reference to you. It was a sort of wake up call for ME that of course there are ppl who are staying home with no income, and impatient to get out. I am in the privileged category because my husband is a geek and the money keeps coming in. If we were relying only on my income that dried up back in Jan when all the events started to cancel.
I know everybody is scared of socialism in US, but that's how Europe is surviving, by supporting the citizenry not industries.
