What's on your (PHOTO FRIDAY) Menu, RNYers?
I'm home again after spending one of the worst days of my life. We got up at 3AM to make our 6AM flight to LAX. All's well there, we got into LA early and I swear we taxied around the airport at least twice, we were circling for over 20 minutes. But so far so good, we got our rental car- not what we ordered but it was OK. When you're traveling with a 6'6" man it's hard to find cars that he can fit into. I also upgraded us to first class on the flight, which I love.
I'm not brave enough to drive in LA, they go 85+ mph and don't blink an eye. So we make it to Anaheim and have to wait for someplace to open for lunch, trying to save some money instead of buying junk in the park. So we finally make it to Disneyland which I don't recognize, find parking at $25 a day and take the tram to the park. By this time there are torrential rains, and we both end up being soaked to the skin. There is almost nowhere to get out of the rain. So we decided to go find some rain gear and maybe change into some dry clothes. By the time we get back we find out that the park is going to close on Saturday. So not only did I not go on one ride I bought 4 day tickets and at the most we could have used 2 days of them. I know the rain is not predictable, but they said only brief showers. This was not brief and being from Oregon I know what I'm talking about.
I was so stressed out, this was not even close to being fun. We decided to cut our losses and try to get a flight home. At the airport we found out that all international flights were to be cancelled on Friday, so if you didn't get out on Thursday you weren't going anywhere. They also closed down all LA schools and a friend who lives in Sacramento said they have done the same there.
I did buy the cancellation insurance and it covers corona virus, so I need to find out how to get some of my money back. We managed to get a flight out at 9:25PM and we didn't get home until about 1AM.
The worst part for me was not being able to get any help to deal with this. We basically had to go to the very limited assistance desk in the airport to try to get a flight home. I will say that Disneyland did take care of us. The parking attendant got our parking fee refunded, I got the power chair rental refunded, and they did refund the park admissions. I really feel for the workers at Disneyland, they didn't get notified of the closure until after it went public and I'm sure they are like me if they don't work they don't get paid.
I was really looking forward to this trip. I wanted so much to relax and have some fun. So after being up for almost 24 hours I didn't drink enough water and was awoken by leg cramps. Also my purse is still drying out.
This fed into all of my worst emotional issues, to feel powerless and helpless. Not that I was, but emotionally I was there. I was so far out of my comfort zone, and forced to do things I wouldn't normally do- like ask people for help. But I did it, not very gracefully.
I still have to deal with trying to get a refund on the package, I booked through AARP which uses Expedia, but I have been unable to get assistance through their phone #, I have called at least 8 times, spent hours on hold and only once succeeded in getting a live body, only to be told the system is down and they are upgrading it and it will be at least 2 hours. Who upgrades their system in the middle of this chaos?
For a fashion update you can accessorize with double masks-a black one over a white one, blue gloves, black gloves and use a variety of hand sanitizers and noxious cleaning products in an enclosed space so we all have to smell them. Also if you play your phone loud enough it can be heard 4-5 rows back and annoy all of those around you.
Thanks for letting me rant. I hope this madness ends quickly. I do worry about those with compromised immune systems. Update on my Mom she is home from the hospital and doing fine. The vertigo she has is the same thing I get BPPV, motion induced caused by crystal in your ears. There are maneuvers that you can do to move the crystals and get relief. She ordered groceries on Thursday and the earliest delivery date she could get is Sunday.
Have a great Friday everyone, I decided not to work as I'm still recovering from yesterday. There is a ton of work that I need to do around the house and yard so I'll try to get to it.

Julia, I'm so sorry to hear that you weren't able to enjoy your break. I know that you were looking forward to it.

Good afternoon! I'm at the beach - gorgeous day (see below). There isn't as much panic here in Florida yet. Though some functions are cancelled, others are still being held and good restaurants are still busy. However I expect it will get worse and am accepting that I may be in Florida longer than originally planned. I may also have to forego my annual Aruba trip.
So last night was not a good night for WW points. The Italian dinner options were lasagne or bolognese. The chicken was gone. Then there was the cake and the wine.
QOTD: I would also stockpile coffee, but I already purchased extra dog food. BTW, doesn't anybody think having groceries delivered is an option?

Right now in MA, anyway, there is nothing to be delivered! Walmart, Target & Whole Foods have literally nothing available when you try to order online. I have a Whole Foods delivery scheduled--you can usually choose it to come within 2 hours, but I had to wait 3 days. I am not expecting them to bring anything more than a can of lentil soup by the time they come.
Until yesterday's press conference, I was sure grocery stores would be closing, too, but I guess the WhiteHouse got Target & Walmart to agree to stay open. So now I am less concerned...

I think everyone has gone insane! I was at Walmart at 6:30 am and our regular food store at 7 this morning. Lots of other people. No TP or sanitizers, but at least we have everything else. I did get some facial tissue as a backup... (and I moved my Amazon subscription for coffee up).

Hello my friends,
It's hard to avoid all corona virus worry, and it sounds like most of us are experiencing some. I had to go to a large Seattle hospital yesterday. I need an operation, and have finally - finally! - gotten full insurance coverage so I can actually have it without worrying about a huge bill, rather than just waiting and waiting while things get worse. I was nervous about going, but I needed to meet one of the surgeons who will help me, and just generally get this rolling. I don't know yet when my surgery will take place, but they initiated the scheduling process yesterday. I was told it probably will be in March sometime, unless the corona virus becomes so overwhelming here that there are no available beds. I'm concerned of course about being that vulnerable in a hospital during this scary time, but I also don't want to have to wait for God knows how many months until this outbreak calms. I need this badly, and it isn't a cosmetic issue. Though I left very early and it was a 2-hour drive to the hospital, traffic which normally is impossibly snarled was light and free-flowing. There were people wearing masks in the hospital and also at the grocery store. We all are on edge. When I visited the grocery store to get more eggs, tuna, soups, and canned and frozen vegetables, many shelves were bare. There is no Amazon Fresh or other food delivery service available up here on the island. The good thing is that my fave local grocery store had a sign out yesterday - you can call in your order, prepay via phone, and in an hour you can drive up and they will load your groceries. I'm sure I will be using that in the future.
QOTD: I have perhaps 2-3 weeks of food, and lots of toilet paper for now. I will buy more coffee and tea, some protein powder, and I need to get more cat food and litter. I usually just eat fresh, high protein, low carb foods, most of which isn't shelf-stable. But tuna and a few other pantry items are doable.
Take care you guys, and please be careful out there.
