I agree with catwoman. If you follow the rules you will be successful, if you don't, you won't.
I had RNY 11 years ago. I know many people who had surgery the same time as me who have gained a lot back- several have even gained it all back. You get to decide which path you will be on.
Surgery is not magic. You have to work hard to create good eating habits while you also work on the mental part that led you to obesity. Both are important to long-term success. Good luck!!

I had a VSG (gastric sleeve). Like RNY, it is a tool. The original loss is accelerated due to healing stoma*****reased metabolism in the first 1-2 years after surgery, and in the case of RNY malabsorption. If you are willing to follow the "rules" and eat protein first, don't drink while eating or immediately afterwards, and track what you are eating you will likely be successful. Most of us learn the rules they personally need to follow for long-term success. It requires some effort to lose and keep the weight off but it is a great tool to make it easier.

Do you have health issues? Diabetes high blood pressure sleep apnea? This is your way out if you do. Regain is real don't get me wrong but better to have tried and loose then to never try at all. I feel so much healthier I'd never change my decisions. Make sure your Bariatrics practice has follow up support and offers a support group. I believe the physical support group keeps me accountable and posting on the menu thread.

I had my "real" talk with myself and knew that sweets and overeating were my gigantic issues, so I needed to nip those in the bud... so Bypass was the best decision I could have made and no longer have any comorbidities.
Keep with the bariatric diet that is given to you by your surgeon and you will find success! I have been at goal/maintenance phase for the most part (had a daughter 3 years ago and had some regain... understandable).
Best of luck to you! We can't wait to cheer you on!
