I have a quick question: Did you tell anyone where exactly you were going and what time you would be back? Hopefully you did.

As a long term hiker, who was hiking for many many years, and who was sometimes responsible for many people, you need to make sure you have a plan, and that someone knows where exactly you are going and for how long.

I was a member of many search teams that were looking for lost hikers - walkers.

Some searches had happy endings, some very unfortunate. I am an experienced hiker and learned a hard way not to hike alone. Being with just a dog- is hiking alone. Having a cell phone that can break or get wet, or be just a few meters out I'd a range - is not a backup plan.

Being part of a search team that could not find a person for more than 48 hours was really depressing. There was more than one searches like that. But one stuck on my head. He was an experienced hiker, on a route he hiked before. He got separated from a group.

His body was eventually recovered. He slipped on some stones when crossing a steep creek and fell into a bushes. He died from exposure, and when he was found, it was determined that he broke his pelvis during the fall, and most likely hurt his head. There was internal bleeding, and most likely loss of conciousness. At least we hope there was. It was a very cold night. We won't know for sure if he would survive if he was found before the night fall. He probably got hurt in the morning, around 10-11 am, but search for him did not start until 2-3 pm. There were many groups searching that relatively small area.

Slipping and falling - I can't even count how many times I did that as a young, healthy person. I've seen my share of dangerous accidents that were did not result in tragedy because there were others to helpm or call for help.

Walking in neighborhoods, or on paths that are frequent is one thing. Walking in semi wilderness is a completely different story.

Lunch - Vegan burger, no bun, extra veggies

Dinner - Smoothie, oat milk, peanut butter, cocoa powder, hemp seed protein

Can I vent for a minute? I had dinner with my mom and husband yesterday. My mom, bless her heart y'all. I am 45 and yet she says things that cut right through to my core. Yesterday, she told me "You look so gaunt...you've lost so much weight, you need to eat more, etc..." This from the same mom who would say "You're so pretty if you just lost some weight" when I was a teenager. Don't get me wrong, I love my mom and I know she loves me but damn it hurt my feelings. And to be clear...I am NOT gaunt. I am 147lbs at 5'5". WELL within a normal, healthy BMI. I still would love to lose another 12lbs.

I dunno. I feel like no one ever really said **** when I was fat and shoving crap down my throat, but going vegan, intermittent fasting and doing really great things for myself and suddenly everyone is a nutrition expert. Not just my mom, but even others. "But where will you get your protein???" Uh, where does a bull get it's protein? Plants and grains. JEESH. I guess I am feeling a little defeated. Thankfully my husband sees it, and he tells me "babe, keep doing what you're doing. You look and feel better than you have in years..."

I don't have anyone IRL that I can talk to about this stuff without sounding whiny, but I know this is a place I can express thoughts about food, nutrition, life, etc. I just wish we could all do what is best for OUR bodies and minds, and people could back off.

Thank you for letting me vent.

As long as I am not pushing my new lifestyle down anybody's throat I feel they have no room to comment. If they have a problem tell them I will put you on my HIPPA info so They can call my doctor and see what he says. As long as your blood work checks out and your BMI is above 18 they should just be happy for you.

I agree. Last night just really struck a chord, I guess because even in my 40s I want my mom's approval. Which I know she loves me and is happy I'm healthy...but gah!

Good lord I had a flashback to my grandma saying the "you'd be so pretty if..." **** You are right...it cuts to the core. I am so sorry she said that!

people have a lot of audacity, that is abundantly clear for those that have had WLS.

i could never be vegan but I don't knock people who do do that. You have to find what works for you and your life. I say kudos to you for staying true to yourself. Glad your hubby is supportive!
