I appreciate everyones feedback. I must say that everything Veggiewoman pointed out. I was taking my vitamins......I did not stick to the pre surgery menu......I did have the psychological screening......I went thru a troll of tests...meetings..the whole 9 yards before getting the surgery. Going in for this surgery...their question to me was why did I want the surgery. I told them my main reason was to get my diabetes under control...to get my blood pressure under control...etc. Yes, my bad eating habits was eating an abundance of sweets...and carbs. I can no longer eat those things for whatever reason...my stomach doesnt like it anymore....which is a good thing. I love cake, candy..bread...etc..but my stomach doesnt. After surgery it wasnt that i went back to habits..I couldnt...and yes their are eating classes..I did all my vitamin workups..blood work ups All of that..my husband made sure I didnt miss appts...I made sure I didnt miss appts.

All of that tells me you really should see several surgeons to get more than one opinion. You sound like a special case and if a surgeon does not know what he is doing, you will be even more messed up after a revision. I know several people with serious issues who went to the Cleveland Clinic and got help there. They are top notch.

Please be careful.

I normally respond to to ONLY OP, but am writing to say you have no idea of what she's been through.

I had to have an open rny reversal, 9 1/2 years ago, I would've died without it and I gained weight even tough I had the labs of a starving person even though I was clinically Obese again.

My bariatric surgeon had enough wherewithal to know that I was better off being SMO than being that sick nearly dying of gi bleeds multiple times.

No surgeon wants to do a reversal unless it's life or death or serious quality of life.

Unless you've had to make it your life's work to either talk people into reversals when it's medically indicated because they would rather be dead than fat again, in which that case they'll be buried in a teeny tiny coffin, or talk to someone out of a reversal because they didn't think they'd have such bariatric surgical regret that they are suicidal and feels no one understands, you could really hurt someone with a "tough love" approach such as yours.

I hope OP keeps this post up because really the best peers to help reversed peeps, is the reversal community and I really honestly wouldn't wish a reversal or my complications on anyone.

And I wasn't non compliant either and 3 out of 5 in my immediate family had wls, same surgeon, same dna, drastically different outcome, sister had rny 17 1/2 years ago, can eat anything and just has to work out a lot, parent had rny and revision and is still SMO and can do more than I can.

Chances are.- you will luckily never know what it's like to have a reversal and I honestly hope you never have to find out, but please don't make assumptions because the whole idea is terrifying to you....

Wishing you the best... Peace, Lisa

I know two people that got the sleeve after the RNY. They lost no weight at all. One lady that had her RNY at the same time I did was having the same problems you experienced. Hers finally subsided and her weight stabilized, she never gained weight back but she stopped losing weight also. She is almost 30 pounds less than she should be for her height but she said it beats the alternative. Unfortunately, weight gain, even without reversal, is more common than keeping it off. I had mine back in 2006. I weigh 8 pounds more now than I did at my lowest weight. I am still happy, and will not complain about gaining and still wear a size 10 down from a very tight 24.

You have to make the decision on your own whether you want to give up the beer. I am fortunate, I can't drink any thing alcoholic or I will bounce off walls, lol. Do I miss it? Yes, but I prefer not feeling like I drank a gallon of liquor due to the way it reacts with my body now. Your doctor can suggest the best course for you to take. Mine told us in the beginning that reversal was out of the question unless it was a matter of life or death. I only know three people out of over 40, that I became friends with during all my pre-surgery meetings and classes, that have not gained their weight back. I talked to a couple who were puzzled as to why they gained when they said they weren't eating much. The only way to gain is by eating too much or the wrong foods, that is a fact. People can drink nothing but milkshakes for two months and gain a lot of weight yet say they have done nothing but liquids. That's great, but their choice in liquid was terrible, lol. I have a good friend that lives at Starbucks, and she also says she doesn't eat much food at all yet sucks down starbucks fraps like water. She went from over 500 pounds down to 165 but she is 6'3" tall. She had her surgery 4 years ago and now weighs over 400. That gain was not from hardly eating anything, it was from eating the wrong things and starbucks. Like alcohol, I can not drink milkshakes or eat ice cream, I can drink a small starbucks frap and I don't get sick. But I limit it to one small one a month, no more. I wish you the best of luck when you go back to your doctor. I hope she can guide you in the right direction and hope the reversal wasn't done too quickly and was really necessary. Take care and let us know how it goes.

I don't know where you live but if at all possible I would go to Cleveland clinic like another poster suggested. My surgeon had over 20 years experience in bariatrics but ended up being a complete idiot and failed to diagnose a complication from bypass so I had to go to Cleveland. The doctor there figured out the problem and fixed it with surgery. I would be afraid to go anywhere else if you are considering a revision.

There has been so much back and forth here, I'm confused.

Please correct me if I'm wrong. You had RNY, lost too much, had nutritional issues, and had it reversed. Then you gained a lot, and diabetes and other issues crept back in. Is that a fair synopsis?

It's unclear to me -- what's the source of climbing blood sugars, and the weight gain?
