2.5 years out.. Hair falling out AGAIN

I'm 2.5 years out and noticed that my hair is falling out again. I've kept up with my supplements, but don't get the minimum protein in per day. Perhaps that has something to do with it. But has anyone else experienced this? I'm up 30 lbs from my lowest BTW.

Hi! I personally did not have that happen to me but of course the best action plan is to contact your doc and if you haven't done your labs in awhile you might want to get those done. As for the 30 lbs, did you need to gain or is this unplanned regain?

Hey girl. I did not intend for the 30 lbs to come back. However, I have been grazing like crazy. Junk food- chips, chocolates, pastries... the slider foods. Out of bad habit and choices. I take full responsibility. Need to stop.

Gotcha! I didn't want to assume as we all have different things going on and you just never know. First of all, know you are worth it and you can do it! It won't be easy to go the carb/junk food withdrawals but YOU CAN DO IT. Make sure you are getting in plenty of water (however not until at least mins after your last bite, I also stop a half hour before a meal) and then dense protein. Do you currently track your food?

Thanks! I track my food/exercise through MyFitnessPal, I contribute to the daily menu thread (helps keep me accountable in addition to getting and giving support) that you could jump in anytime, and I'm addicted to my cardio time.

Have you had any instances of extreme stress or pain? Last summer I had severe pain from a bulging disc and I had another bout of hair loss and I'm six years out from surgery. If there's nothing like that you can point to, it's probably not a bad idea to check in with your doc.

The three possibilities I can think of are:

  • Nutritional deficiency. It's definitely a good idea to get a blood work-up.
  • Some sort of stress to your body. Are you pregnant? Have you had a baby recently? Have you had any type of surgery (not just WLS) recently?
  • Breakage. If you co-wash, make sure you do a normal wash of your hair at least once a week to remove build-up; otherwise, it can cause breakage. This may be the cause of the hair loss some DevaCurl users are having.

Maybe start with the blood test and a general check-up. If that doesn't reveal anything, a dermatologist may be able to diagnose the problem.
