What's on your (PHOTO FRIDAY) Menu, RNYers?
Awww you and Grim are ADORABLE and Fezzik - be still my heart! My cat cuddles up next to me in bed, but doesn't sprawl out on my lap. He's so cute!!!!
QOTD - Mexican, hands down. Avocado, spicy salsa, cheese, sour cream, jalapeños and did I mention avocado? Italian is a close second with Thai rounding out in third place!
I am exhausted, and I feel like this has been my unhealthiest year ever. I have battled two AWFUL colds (early Dec and then mid Jan) - I got antibiotics and steroids two weeks ago which made it go away until...woke up today with another sore throat and an ear ache?!?! I am literally in despair. I don't have time to go to the doc today and I travel again on Monday. I could cry. But I am going to tackle it with Sudafed and nasal spray and hope my ears don't explode on the plane...
B: leftover marinated chicken thigh that Kris grilled two days ago that I marinated for an hour in greek yogurt, lemon juice, olive oil, salt, pepper and sumac - they turn out SO flavorful and tender...and to disguise that this is our third meal of it, I turned it into chicken salad with some mayo
L: Bowl of broccoli cheddar soup and half a greek salad
D: Cincinatti chili - the kids and Kris eat it over noodles with Oyster crackers. Weirdos.
E: Nada
Have a wonderful weekend, all!
BTW- dairy is very mucus forming. And any type of grains.
I know it may be difficult, but avoiding dairy, even small amount in coffee or as a snack can really make a difference for how much of that stuff I have to deal with. For me- the whey part - milk, cream, yogurt, soft cheese - cause much more mucus than casein in hard aged cheese.
On the other had, good spicy foods can warm up the head and clean congestion. I often add lots if spices to my homemade chick drop soup, and lots of pick7ginger and horseradish to my meats. Wasabi can clean any passages.... but you got to take enough of it...
I hope you feel better... I hate flying with cold - congestion. One time it got so bad that I ended up with a severe ear infection when the stuff was pushed deep into my ears. It took me 2 weeks to recover. But it only happened one time.
Hugs.

I often use ghee instead of butter in some dishes.
My body doesn't react very badly with hard cheese. But any other dairy, that contains whey - and I get congested and/or often start losing my voice. (Sinus discharge drains slowly at the back of my throat irritating my vocal cords)

That is a great point, Hala! I had not even considered avoiding dairy and I use half and half in my coffee and enjoy cheese quite a bit! I should abstain this weekend, in the hopes that this goes away. My fervent fear is that this is some supervirus sinus infection that got stronger after my antibiotics and will never go away!!!! (I tend towards being a hypochondriac, can you tell?)
I do have some super spicy Korean ramen soup. Maybe I will do that for dinner instead of chili...
I was reading that when we get recurring sinus infections and get treated with antibiotics, yet the infection comes back and back, we may be dealing with actual yeast / fungal sinus infections.
Same with UTI. When we feel like UTI but the labs comes negative for bacterial infections, we may be dealing with fungal UTI.
I hope you have good weekend. Sinus infections free.

I hope you get to feeling better over the weekend! I used Teenie's suggestion of bio freeze on my chest at night along with the Vick's on the feet covered in warm socks and it helped!
one other thing to try, that I used when I had really bad bronchitis -- my Cuban ladies (who also told me about the Vick's/feet) told me about this one.
take a lime, wa**** Cut it in quarters, out it in your blender with a whole blender of water, blend until the lime is just lime fluff. Drink. Repeat as necessary.
I am convinced that a weekend of that kept me out of urgent care! Not scientific at all, but I'm convinced.

Well Cuban coffee is a miracle in a cup so why not try the lime thing?! I hadn't thought about bio freeze. I may have to swing by CVS and pick some up. I am convinced it's deep in the sinus pockets somewhere...why else the drainage and ear and throat pain? Ugh ugh ugh. I feel so whiny but how is it that I am sick AGAIN.
Have a good trip to Vegas!!!
Good Morning and Happy Fri-yay!! JB- love your little helper. I need to try and focus and get some reports and things done today but my mind isn't cooperating. I also need to head out in a few to drop off my car for a repair.
