I can't remember where I first heard about it (although it was recent), but I found a bunch of recipes for it on the internet. It's made with cottage cheese instead of cream cheese, less sugar than American cheesecake, and has no crust. And they put almond extract (or almond liquor - or almond flour) in there to give it a slight almond-y taste. So it's lighter - not as many calories. They typically top it with whipped cream and jam. But I've been experimenting with recipes to try to lower the calories even more - and bump up the protein - Splenda instead of sugar, adding protein powder, using whole milk instead of half & half or heavy cream, etc. It's a little dry without the extra fat, but I can work on that - maybe add some more liquid. But if you top it with enough Greek yogurt or light Cool Whip, it kinda offsets the dryness. I also cook berries down in SF Torani syrup (and add a little vanilla and cinnamon) rather than use jam - a lot fewer calories.

P.S. in really traditional recipes they use milk curds (after curdling milk with rennet) instead of cottage cheese, but a lot of people (even Swedes) use cottage cheese now. Much easier, and supposedly tastes about the same.

Good morning JB and Menuers,

Glad to see things are winding down for you Julia and you'll be back to a normal schedule soon.

QOTD: I lost a gold bracelet and a gold ball that in today's market would be well over $1000. I had a chain I always wore around my neck with the gold ball charm on it. I had bought it when I started making decent money at this job and fortunately I had close family members who were jewelers. Well My boyfriend at the time (now husband) bought me a gold and diamond heart and I took the ball off my chain and exchanged it for the heart. I loved the ball so I just put it on the thickest bracelet I had. I had three different sizes of bracelet that matched the necklace. Well it was Christmas time there were many parties, I went to a hockey game, was at the casino, and visited the hospital all in one day and the next morning it was gone. I tried to revisit my steps to no avail. I was hoping through the years it would show up somewhere Like in the back of a drawer. somewhere in the car, under a bed. However I have now given up since the car I was driving and the house I was living in are no longer parts of my life. I still wear the heart but in the back of my mind I still wish I had the chain and ball back.

Accountability; great.

My mom has an amazing story about losing her diamond ring at the original Filene's Basement in Boston in the 80s. If you have never heard of Filene's Basement, it was this enormous warehouse-like department store. They had zillions of haphazard racks and deep bins of clothes and it was always a crowded mess of a place. It's not the type of place you want to lose anything in, especially a tiny diamond ring!... But anyway, we retraced our steps hours later and someone had actually turned it in :)

Here I am....always late to post. This is my third week of bariatric eating and I'm proud of my self for doing so well; however, the scale is NOT moving like I think it should. I did lose 4 lbs. but back up 2 lbs. My clothes are more comfortable and I feel better physically. It could be all the stress I've had with DH and my son. My son had an interview this morning so hopefully he will get to work soon. Breaking the cycle of getting a job, getting a paycheck and buying Vodka is a worry. Praying every day this time is different.

QOTD: I received 2 gift cards for Christmas but misplaced them. I went thru several bags of trash...yuck. Finally found one. I had put it in my wallet. Still haven't found the other one. It's for restaurants and would be so nice to have since we don't eat out much.

Snow has been forecasted everyday this week. We've had a misty rain for 2 days. Supposed to snow overnight. The boy I tutor is hoping for a snow day tomorrow. I don't work tomorrow and hope to work in my sewing room on a quilt.

Eats:

B: Premier protein

S: Big Train shake

L: Chaffle with chicken sausage

D: Pepperoni chicken; broccoli; spoonful of rice

S: Protein pudding with walnuts

S2: Laughing Cow cheese w/cauliflower crackers
