I am having a difficult time figuring out what is "regain", (because my choices have not been good) and what is to be expected, as most surgeons let wls patients know that after the lowest weight there will be a sort of bounce up to what is our maintain weight. I guess if I was doing everything perfectly I would KNOW, but I second guess myself and am a hard critic. How did you know what your "maintain" weight vs. regain was? You mention issues that crept in that you wish you had dealt with. Are you comfortable sharing what some of them were?
sure- my appt last year in Jan with the surgeon I was 160 pounds. he was very happy me and said I looked strong and healthy. I continued to gain after that. My low weight was 118 which was underweight.
Most of the things early on were things like not sleeping, getting up and eating. Not even needing food just wanting it. Then thinking- well I already messed up so I'm just going to continue to eat whatever. I could eat 1000- calories during a night which caused the gain.
sometimes it is boredom eating. sometimes it is being 'tired and exhausted'.
the therapist said it wasn't binge eating disorder as it didn't fit the criteria.

I appreciate you sharing. I am not sure how tall you are but I am fairly tall and so I can carry a heavier weight than someone shorter; however, I just want to know that I am doing what I need to do as far as drinking water, protein, daily vitamins, some daily exercise eventually and feeling healthy and strong. I started some bad habits trying to make gaining weight easier and now I am fighting the consequences of that. I have gained the weight but I don't feel healthy or strong. :/

I'm not quite two years out but in my head anything that is over the weight I want to be at, I would consider regain. It's less complicated that way.
I'm about 40 lbs under what my surgeon said was the "absolute most I would lose and only if I did everything right" - so while he is an excellent surgeon and I'm looking forward to my 2 year follow up, his opinion on regain, bounce back, etc is invalid. I believe if I went back to him at his best case weight for me, he would still consider it a success but I would not.
*and to be clear, I am not under weight. I am exactly at the normal BMI and still have a belly to lose!

Mornin' All!
I was planning to go to water aerobics this morning but got up a bit too late - so I'll do TRX later this morning (it'll be a nice change from the weight machines. I should probably alternate them ANYWAY so I don't get burnt out on one or the other). May go to Aqua Zumba or land Zumba this evening for cardio. We're also going to go see Parasite with MIL this afternoon. AND I need to do some research for a trip I'm trying to plan to the Amalfi Coast. Not sure if I should do it myself or use some mostly-unstructured tour company like Untours (which would cost more, but they take care of a lot of the legwork that can be kind of a pain to organize yourself). I'm not crazy about escorted tours where you're hopping on and off of buses all the time, but just having someone figure out some of the more irritating logistics but otherwise allowing you to do your own thing might be nice as long as it's not too expensive.
TSS: 4 years 7 months
