Labs
Hello,
I dont think my PCP is getting my labs done correctly. Can someone please help me out and tell me what are they supposed to test? I went in December and they only took 4 vials of blood.
He is definitely missing something. I had my RNY abroad 7 months ago and I dont know what they test here in the us.
I would really appreciate your help!!!

Before the elizabeth Holmes scam was revealed, in Az, we could order our own labs. I wonder if that's still possible.

We can here in Texas on the Quest website (I have had my ferritin checked on my own between doctor visits because it was easier and cheap) or websites like ultalabtests.com.

I will have to check here. I know we have quest! I've been going back to AZ for my annual follow up with the surgeon and bari nurse and then having my pcp pull them in the middle 6 months but I'd like to do them (or at least some of them like ferritin) quarterly. I had iron issues pre op so always hyper vigilant on that one.

If you want insurance to cover the tests, a doctor's order is needed. But generally speaking, self pay labs don't need a doctor.
The same for data scans. Insurance will pay for a basic scan, with a doctor's order. You can get a more comprehensive self-pay scan without a doctor. Some health clubs even do them.

Do you still go for annual checkups to your Bariatric Surgeon? I know all programs are different (as well as insurance companies) but just curious if you can request the list from your surgeon to be sent to your PCP? Because I would be in the saaaaame boat as you with being a little scared because I am being petrified of finding out I have a deficiency. Agreed it should be more than 4 vials. I am usually "the winner of the day" when I go get mine done at Quest with upwards of 12-15.
