Welcome back! I hope this surgery gets you where you need to be and that recovery is easy! Will be good if your GERD resolves for sure!

This thread was a great idea, Partlypollyanna!

I'm wombat. I'm owned by two cats; we live in Ireland. I completed my PhD (at age 57) in 2017 , and thought "right, what's next". So I had the VSG in summer 2018. My weight loss has been good and steady. I'm almost at a normal BMI, and am still losing. I was sceptical that I would succeed at this, so I am thrilled with the results. I've been vegetarian for decades, but after surgery I went vegan. If you're looking for a recommendation for a vegan protein powder, I'm your woman!

Hi everyone! My name is Pat. I had RNY on Dec 10, 2018. My biggest loss since surgery was 58 pounds, but I've since gained back 10. I have not made it to the goal my team has set for me. My personal goal was never to be skinny, but to get off insulin and hopefully prevent any damage from diabetes. After the surgery I am off all diabetes drugs and have dropped a lot of my high blood pressure meds, so that goal is met. I can move so much better and feel so much better. I am down approximately 150 lbs from my highest ever weight, at one point losing 80 lbs on my own and keeping it off for several years, thankfully never getting back to my original high. I am very disappointed in myself for not doing better. I really depended on having dumping syndrome to manage my sugar cravings but pushed the boundaries and got back into sugar shortly after surgery with no dumping syndrome. I've been struggling ever since. I'm not following the rules and am so scared but can't seem to stop. My RD is very supportive and was happy that I even showed up for my 1 year appt, she said it showed I care. I still haven't seen my surgeon for my 1 year, I'm just so ashamed of myself. I know I have to get it under control and just do it. Any thoughts? I've been avoiding reading these threads lately because I just feel worse about myself. But I know I have to pick myself up and get over it and fix it before it gets too late. Thank you for listening to my story.

Welcome! Right now is a great time to start doing the things you know you should. Don?t waste time being hard on yourself for what you did or didn?t do previously, just start now.

this is where I first I heard something along the lines of if you fall off the wagon, get back on with the next meal ? not the next day, not the next Monday but next meal.

Review your materials, plan how you?re going to attack them and then start. Every step will move you in the right direction!

good luck, you can do this!

Jen- thank you so much for your reply! I have started doing what you said, starting with messaging my bariatrician to get connected with the bariatric psychiatrist. Weighing and measuring and planning my food. Eating slowly. Trying to be positive! Thanks again.

Hello everyone My name is Lisa, I'm 45 and live in Indiana right outside of Indianapolis. I'm happily married, a mom to 4 daughters who are all grown and off on their own. I have three grand babies that I absolutely love! I just started my journey last week. I met with my new Bariatric doctor/surgeon. I'm still awaiting news about whether or not my insurance will cover anything. But my doctor told me not to worry, I qualify for it. I am going to be having an RNY, at some point. I was told it could take anywhere from 3-6 months before surgery. So I'm happy I found this site. I have a lot of questions about the surgery, foods to eat, foods not to eat. So I'll be reading all the posts and recipes and asking as I go along. I hope to make some new friends and I also hope I can offer support along the way as well. Thank you and looking forward to meeting everyone!
