Hi all! I'm Cara. I had RnY surgery on 6/17/17, in Oxnard, CA at St. John's with Dr. Helmut Billy. Love him and that marvelous hospital! I started at 353 lbs (and a BMI of 53!), and I have been at my final goal (125-127) for a year, hallelujah! My first goal was to be under 150, my second was to be under 140, and my final one was to be where I am now. All those clothes I bought since hitting goal (because literally nothing fit) all still fit - it's the first time in my life that I've maintained from year to year. I'm still just 2.5 years out, and I know from what others say that it gets more challenging, but that doesn't diminish my delight in staying steady this far!
I moved to the Seattle last year after 13 years in Santa Barbara, and now live on an island just north of the city. It's beautiful when it's not raining and grey, but to me the dark, wet, depressing winters are proving to be a special challenge. I grew up on the East coast, mostly in NJ, and went to school in NYC, St. Louis, and Santa Barbara.
I am a writer, illustrator, herbalist, and the mom of one grown son, also a Seattlite, and of two 18-year-old Siamese kitties.
So glad to be here with all of you! OH has been wonderfully helpful to me.

Hello everyone. I stumbled on this site as I was googling breakfast cereal suggestions after RNY surgery. I just had my surgery on 12/3/2019. My consultation weight was 264 and pre surgery was 257. Scale at home this morning showed 231. I'm 48 and stand about 5'8" tall.
I have been struggling for years with type 2 Diabetes and that was the primary reason for the surgery. My blood sugars are finally under control now and I am very happy about that. I have 4 kids with 2 out of college, one in college and a 5th grader so I felt I really needed to try this to get healthy again.
I didn't have any complications with the surgery and feel great. I don't seem to have problems with any food I have tried so far. I am looking forward to reading the forums on this site and getting great advice from everyone.

Welcome to the group! I haven't tried cereal since my surgery but I see earnest oats (high protein oatmeal) on people's menus.

i'm another oldie - I had RNY in December 2015. I have had complications- gall bladder then a hernia with twisted bowel which easily could have killed me if they had not caught it when they did.
I've also had some major issue early on eating solid food and was on a lot of liquids- it was great for the scale and I was down to 118 pounds. finally something changed though I didn't know what did and I could eat- I've gained and I'm working on that now. I developed bad anxiety and between not sleeping due to it and tiredness lead to me eating a LOT of calories at night. and sometimes during the day. I'm repairing that relationship now and rarely have issues now.
oh for the fun part- I live in two states- Chattanooga TN and Big Canoe GA. My DH stays mostly in GA with the dogs (3 pups) caring for his father most of the week then working on the 'barndominium (converted barn) in GA getting it ready to start air BNB in the spring and I am in a little 1950's cottage in TN working during the week. Generally he comes up or I drive down. Its been hard...
I like to paddleboard, yoga, run (sometimes), weight train, make cards, jewelry and have been know to be a personal shopper for people that need it.

Lack of sleep makes everything harder and it weakens self control (at least for me!). Good for you for getting that under control!

Hello everyone I'm Scott. I live in northern Minnesota. I had a RNY in December of 2018. I've lost 145lbs and have being doing good with maintenance. Just met with my surgeon for my 1 year and he's pleased with my labs and weight loss. I did not tell him I'm struggling with alcohol. This site is great I love reading the daily menu thread. You people are great! Have a good day!
