I love this idea, too!! I joined OH in 2007 and had RNY in 2008. I had thought about getting a lapband for years but after watching the TV series "Big Medicine", I decided to have RNY. My surgeon was Garth Davis who was on that show.
My highest weight was 339 and my goal weight, which I achieved in 14 months, was 140. I maintained fairly easily for years until my mom was diagnosed with uterine cancer in 2018. I gained roughly 30 pounds through her treatment and death. Now I am working on losing it again.
I am the proud mom of 2 teenagers. I adopted them as a single mom and traveled to Kazakhstan and China to find them. They are great kids and my whole world. I know I need to stay healthy for them.
I am a high school math teacher and eligible to retire this year. My kids are 15 and 17 so that will not be possible until they are out of college.
In my spare time I love fostering animals. Our last kitten just got adopted last week and we are still trying to find a home for our sweet pitbull, Bo. I would love to keep him but he hates cats and we have a lot of cats...lol. Also, when he gets adopted I can foster more animals and that is what I need to do. Sadly there are too many irresponsible pet owners in the world.
Here is our sweet boy, Bo:

Bo is so cute, I wish I could take him. One day, when I don't travel, I'll have dogs/cats again. You are doing so well with your approach to losing your regain, it's inpirational!

I'm not a poster on the menu thread but I'm here every day.
I'm Kim, born in England, now a 6 year US citizen living in Castle Rock, Colorado.
I had RNY 15.5 years ago and credit my success (with hiccups) down to being on OH all this time. Two years ago I got a hold on my slow regain and got myself back down to my target weight, taking about 8 months ish.
I'm currently concentrating on losing my holiday chub - 2lbs down, 4lbs to go!

I think all of us are in recovery, and going to some kind of "meeting" is the best thing we can do to stay in control of our eating problems. OH is my choice of daily "meeting" as well.

You hit the nail on the head here. I am in recovery and I use the same mantras for sobriety as I do for my daily care/eating.
One day at a time.
Progress, not perfection.
Recovery can mean so many things, different things at different times. Meetings (even such as an online meeting place) can make a world of difference. What a great observation!

Let it begin with me.

This is a great idea, and makes me feel welcome here! I've been lurking since about August when I got serious about having surgery. I was very lucky and my insurance made it easy, and before I knew it, I had surgery on 10/29. My name is Lisa and I live in San Diego. I work full time running an industrial supply company and serve a good deal of time working as a board member for a small non profit. I've got 3 grown kids, 2 granddaughters, a husband and 2 dogs.
While I was surprised by the recovery from surgery, I have been quite nicely pleased that I have not had any complications. Starting week 10 tomorrow, I have most of my strength back, and feel like I have the eating part under control. So far. I limit myself on foods because I'm scared of how they may hit me or that they may make me want more. No simple carbs or sugars at all so far. The weight is coming off, and I am even happier that the inches are too. I'm down 49 since the beginning of this, and have 26 to go. I come to this site almost everyday and read your menu thread. I'm still wrapping my head around which foods are appropriate and what I can make that I can easily modify to fit my diet, and still provide my husband with a dinner that he finds interesting. There have been lots of changes in our routines, but we are making it work!
Have a wonderful evening!
Lisa
