2020 - New year, New Introductions
on 1/6/20 4:26 am
Hi everyone - I've seen a few new names pop up over the last couple of weeks and imagine there's a few people coming here as part of their new year, new plans. Given that (and that today feels like the first "normal" day of the new year to me), I thought I'd start an intro thread - tell as much/as little as you'd like but introduce yourself! I'll put mine in the comments!

Hi everyone - I'm Jen, I'm based in Colorado (Aurora, to be exact). I've been on the site a bit less than 2 years, it was recommended to me by my RD and best recommendation she made!
I try to be active on the daily menu thread -- for ideas on what to eat, for accountability to my choices and because of all the support that everyone there gives each other -- from cheering on achievements, to delivering a kick in the pants when needed, it's by far the best daily check in I have!
Between work and pleasure, I travel more than 50% of the time, I actually find it easier to stay on track when I'm traveling than I do when I'm at home, so I continue to work on the head aspect of this adventure. Heads are very interesting places!
My goals for 2020 are to stay the course with my weight (and have a good year 2 check up with my surgeon, RD and Bari nurse - labs, weight and habits), to do at least one non-assisted pull up by 12/31/20 and to provide as much support and encouragement to those starting their journey as I found here when I started mine.
Happy 2020!
Jen

Morning Jen, nice idea! Hello everyone :)
I am Julia (better known as JB) and I had lap-band surgery just over 11 years ago. I have been an active part of OH for most of that time. I start the daily menu thread most days because I am up earliest, but everyone should feel free to start if they get there before me!
I met my boyfriend on this site through a chance chat on the menu thread when we realized we lived near each other and had similar interests. We have lived together for 3 years, now! As two RNYers, we can either be the best thing for each other and sometimes we can be two fat kids in a candy store together... It's a journey but I am so glad I have someone in my life who gets it. Additionally, we've met a lot of people from this site in person and I consider many here to be IRL friends, now! :)
I was successful with the lap-band. I lost the majority of my weight and was able to maintain for a long time, but then my band failed. I became incredibly sick, vomited almost everything I put in my mouth and started gaining, because eventually I figured out that crackers and other slider foods could go down, sometimes. I didn't gain it all back but I was on my way. I was so sick... I revised to the RNY on surgeon's orders 4.5 years ago.
I lost down to my goal weight on RNY, but last year was a really rough year in my personal life. Its not a good excuse, but it's real. I gained a bit and for the first time, I exceeded my personal comfortable weight range. I am working on finding some better habits and routines again and hope to find myself down 6lbs and back in my comfort zone again in the next 2 months.
- High Weight before LapBand: 200 (2008)

- Lowest post-op weight: 110 (2016)
- Maintenance Weight: 120 (2017-2019)
- Battling Regain Weight: 135 (current)

2020 will be an awesome year for you -- and far from last school year's challenges!

Hello I'm Melody.
i had a revision to RNY May 29,2019. It hasn't gone as planned. I have a serious back issue that'll require surgery. It's also been very depressing.
I hail from Amarillo, TX. I'm almost 39. I have 3 cats and two dogs. I help my mom watch my nieces and nephew. Never a dull moment!
my goal this year is to be in less pain and get ahold of emotional eating.

It's good that you are taking control and hopefully, they can get your back fixed up soon!

Thank you Jen. Some of us may need re-introductions.
I'm Patty, been on OH since 2007. Survived the Lap-band and then revised to By-pass.
Late Fall last year year, I entered a program new to my bariatric center. It is especially developed for those post-ops who fell through the cracks and started regain even before they reached goal (ME!) I had become over obsessed in everyone's losses and judged myself too harshly. The director is a Bariatric MD.
I am having success!!!
