Reactive Hypoglycemia--does it go away?

Hi,
I have had some episodes of RH. They can be scary. I understand what your surgeon may be trying to communicate but if you are already eating pretty healthy and heck, even if you slip up from time to time, RH can be very unpredictable and scary.
I am with the same practice, btw, but I haven't seen that surgeon. I wish you the best.
I have to start with I don't get RH . And as a semi-vegetarian I have to eat a largely healthy carb based diet . I too am about 8 years post op btw... and can only remember a few incidents of real blood sugar lows ( always caused by simple hunger )
What works for me - lots of healthy snacking . Meals really don't matter to me - I'll eat a " meal" three times a few spoonfuls or bites at a time over the course of the afternoon or evening . I stick to healthy carbs ( rice, beans , homemade fat free corn tortilla chips , the occasional toasted English muffin ... ) ( plus fruit, fruit juices and green vegetable juices)
I personally don't push protein and what protein I eat is usually very low-fat or fat free . I do eat a lot of fat free dairy products from ff kefir ( siggis brand YUM ) to ff cream cheese and ff American cheese slices, and shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheeses ( kraft) . I like making an egg white and butter buds and fat free half and half based decadent tasting omelette with melted fat free cheese inside ... Protein does keep me full.
I think the consumption of fresh vegetables and fruits or fruit juices is very important too post op . I FEEL much healthier when I make it a priority. ((( ))) hope this helps U get a handle on this ... it sounds so frustrating!
No.
you learn to manage it.
I've had it for about 11 years.
