What's on your Tuesday Menu, RNYers?
Good morning, everybody!
I hope that Beth and Amy Liz are doing well, I haven't heard from them in awhile.
I also miss the caramel flavored calcium citrate. I'm working through the watermelon chews, but this is a one time thing. from here on out, I'm a caramel guy, even if I have to order by mail.
JB - do you have all of next week off? Our high schoolers have the whole week of Thanksgiving off, so they are starting to count down the days until break. My middle son is going down to Waco to visit his sister Sunday night and they will both be coming home a week from tonight for Thanksgiving break.
My son chose the Sunday through Tuesday visit because he wasn't interested in going to the football game on Saturday. On the other hand, my daughter has been all in on football for the past couple of weeks going to away games at TCU and Kansas plus the Big 12 championship in Dallas if the team advances. Its funny how kids are so different.
QOTD: Not spilling food on myself while trying to navigate from the plate to the mouth because I can sit in my chair and lean forward over the plate.
Breakfast: sausage
Snack: protein bar
Lunch: beef
snack: jerky
dinner: may eat before the hockey game and just have coffee at the game.
Have a great day, all!

This is the first job I have ever had when I don't automatically get the same time off as the kids. And since I'm not eligible to take vaca until Feb, I have to work right up til Thanksgiving, plus Black Friday, AND all Christmas week, including Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve!
I get three personal days, and I'm taking them strategically... 1 for the annual cheese parade in December, 1 for my mom's birthday (which is right before Christmas). And the last one for Red Sox Truck Day in early Feb!

ICK JB, that sucks. I swear, how do companies get away with screwing people over just because they are new? You have 20+ years of awesome experience, you should have started with 20 days vacation or whatever is standard for that level of role. I am so sorry. I can't imagine your office will be busy on Christmas Eve???

I literally cannot imagine what the hell I am going to do at work while the schools are closed for two weeks. I have about 45 minutes worth of organizing and catching up to do, and then...? Lots of QT on OH, I think :)

I want to dislike this because people need a break...but you are prioritizing the cheese parade and that is an awesome thing!! I need a cheese parade!

The Cheese Parade is basically the best thing about the month of December. And I am not forgetting what else is in December... ;)

In some jobs you have to show that you have people available in case something does happen. I was working in a computer room in 1990. I was not scheduled for New Year's Eve. There was absolutely nothing that would need to be done but we had to show the client that we had people on site in case some catastrophe occurred.
I had worked the midnight shift the day before and as I was leaving, one of the managers grabbed me, asked me to come to his office and then asked me to come to work that night. I argued that there was no reason for me to be there and nothing to do. He said he could not say why, but it was very important for me to come in that night.
The computer room had a door where you needed to know the code to get in. I walked in, put my stuff in my locker, and then went to the main room where two guys were already there. On the counter where we prepared reports were an ice bucket, glasses, and a long row of bottles of alcoholic drinks. I could see a party was planned that would have been a huge scandal if it were discovered they were drinking on the job.
They looked at each other in shock and surprise when they saw me. One of them said, "What are you doing here?" I said, "I didn't know why but Dave insisted that I work tonight".
I just said, "Put that stuff in your cars".
After it was all removed from the work place, I sent them to buy pizza and rent videos that we watched to kill time that night.
Real life begins where your comfort zone ends
I been with my company for 23 years and will be working the same schedule as you. If I would want any of those days off I would have to use PTO. I am going to save it for the caribbean vacation in February.

Yikes. I forgot about the cheese parade but pretty sure that you posted it last year.

Good morning JB and Menu crew. We had freezing rain overnight, I could have used my hockey skates to take out the trash. The driveway was very slick and side roads were bad, smooth sailing once I hit the main road. I work 1.5 miles from home, so a wonderful ride in this morning...LOL.
QOTD - perfect day for this question. Today is my 5 year surgiversary. Prior to surgery, I was a Type 2 Diabetic with High Cholesterol and Blood pressure. I was taking 6 medications including insulin and my last pre surgery A1c was 11.2. Today I am still medication free. I did a quick out of pocket calculation and monthly savings are $638 and 5 year savings $38,280, I have not reviewed savings previously, so is amazing. While the scale may not read what I would like it too, being medication free and healthy is a wonderful thing.
