I see -- probably good you've decided on your "give it a pass" approach -- the 8th will be here before you know it!! Hang in there!

From the moment you wake up from surgery, you will have to eat, drink, and move in particular ways. Very particular ways. No ifs, ands, or buts. These will include no candy, no sugar, and no soda, even diet. On top of that, you will feel like crap, you'll be tired a lot, and probably a little nauseous and a little pain.
All of those things will pass, but they will be your reality for a while. Trust me, you don't want to be forced into doing all of those changes simultaneously. It'll really get to you.
Every change you can make now, before surgery, will make life afterward much easier. Ditch the sweets and soda now. Start weighing and logging your food, every bite. Don't drink during meals, or for 30 minutes after. And anything else you can do.
If you think those things are hard now, they will be much harder (and more frustrating) after surgery.
And any dietician that tells a bariatric patient that eating any amount of candy is a good idea, is not worth listening to.

She did state "we don't recommend it, but if you do, limit it to 3-4 pieces a day and no more."
she was adamant about the no soda, even diet. And all my current meals are out of bottles except for the sugar free jello. But since I don't drink with those anyway, I am already ahead of the curve there.
