What's on your (PHOTO) Friday Menu, RNYers?
G'morning all!
Happy Fri-yay!
Quick post before I rush out. It's almost noon here. I already did my 10K in beautiful sunny weather.
I have one last appt at my brother's to double check all teeth before I leave tomorrow.
No new pics but when I saw this I thought of all the cat people on OH.
Have a great weekend and I'll see you back in US on Mon.

I hope your teeth all check out well. I hate, hate, HATE the dentist but I really am behind in my checkups and need to get the kids in. Thank gawd our Dentist is open on Saturdays. Sometimes he will book an entire morning open so I can get the entire tribe in at once. Dental hygiene is really important but it is rare to read of someone so excited about it ;) I love the image. I saved it to show my kids. Maybe it will inspire them to learn more world geography, lol. Safe travels~
Having grown up in a dentist family (great uncle, dad, brother), for me it's no different than going to my brother's home. I do all of my hygienist appts in US, but if they find something that needs to be done I do it by my brother mostly because he doesn't charge me! So it's worth my plane ticket to come back to Italy to get the work done. I get to see my family and I get my teeth fixed for free, win-win.

I think it is wonderful that you have this treasure in your family that allows you dental care without fear PLUS seeing loved ones.
I have a long time internet friend in Italy. He is such a kind person. I have always wondered what Italy is like. It seems like such a wonderful place to be from or live with rich culture and wonderful food of course. ;)
Casa dolce casa!
Home sweet home!

I have read somewhere that rny patients have trouble with their teeth years out of surgery. Since your brother is a dentist, has he seen anything like that in any of his patients? Just curious.
You can't measure your achievements with someone else's yardstick!

I know you didn't ask me this, but I did ask my dentist about it a couple of years ago. He said he's read about it, but he personally doesn't have any RNY patients who have had this problem, so he's never actually seen it. My guess is that it happens, but it's probably not very common. I was so freaked about it, though, that he gave me a prescription for a super high-flouride toothpaste to use before bed and he also does a flouride varnish on my teeth twice a year. He said those two things would go a long way toward preventing problems, since most of the problems that do occur are usually due to acid. I think he did it more to placate me, though - although I'm glad he did. I don't want to have any problems with my teeth!!

I didn't have dental insurance for years and while I was married, it wasn't a priority for my husband and so I just didn't think about it when I was young. I also neglected to take my vitamins while I was having back to back pregnancies while I was young/married. When I finally made it in to the dentist he asked me, "Mountain Dew or kids", lol... welp... it was kids. I didn't have the money for anything fancy but I learned a painful lesson, for sure. I didn't know before bariatric surgery but have read since that a lot of patients do have issues. I kind of suspect that some patients have bariatric surgery in a type of malnourished state even morbidly obese, if that makes sense. Not everyone, but probably quite a few. I mean, if we took care of ourselves I doubt we would have eaten our way up to the point of considering bariatric surgery but then after bariatric surgery it is so important to do certain self care routines for the rest of our lives. I know my life is considerably different now for the mere fact that if I don't do it quite a bit more than my teeth are at stake, iykwim? I think it is good people are posting about things like teeth, etc. to hopefully encourage new post ops to take their vitamins and make sure they are staying on top of things like dental care, etc. Ounce of prevention and all that ;)
