When did your surgeon clear you for balls-to-the-walls exercise?

Here's what I recall after my RNY, all with the caveat that I "listen to my body" and don't push too hard:
- Swimming laps: 2 weeks (incisions were all healed up)
- Slow jogging: 3 weeks
- Full-contact roller derby: 4 weeks (though I definitely took more time than that)
- Anything involving weight lifting: 6 weeks

2 weeks no submerged water activities. 6 weeks with no ab work and no lifting over 10 lbs, outside of that everything was "just stop if it hurts"

I was not cleared until six weeks, but the surgeon later said I would have been fine at four weeks.
Years later, I had heart surgery in March. In June I went swimming in an outdoor pool that looked sparkly clean. But I eventually had a tiny unhealed portion of an incision and developed an infection. That kept me out of the swimming pool for two months.
Everyone heals at their own speed. Just keep walking until you get the go-ahead to do more.
