I have tried to cut out as much soy from my diet as possible. It sneaks in as an ingredient on a few products, but I absolutely limit it. For me though, there's only so many mushroom or black bean burgers lol!

To be honest, I think he might be trying to argue that vegetables are not real foods ;)

LMAO! Fair enough! I have heard that argument before. I had a co-worker tell me years ago "I am allergic to vegetables..."

Vegetables aren't food. They are what food eats.

...adding to your list (tendons, fat, gristle, tallow) in what can be in real beef...growth hormones, antibiotics, and meat derived from a high diet of corn/grains/dirty water. It is possible to find small, family farms that offer grass-fed, grass-finished cattle that drink fresh water from deep wells. The cost to buy better quality beef is sometimes equal to or up to two dollars more in one-pound ground beef packages.

Absolutely. My husband and mother in law both are meat eaters, and I accept that. I also want them to eat the highest quality meat available, so to the farmers market I go on weekends. It costs more, but knowing that it's local, organic, and somewhat sustainable means a world of difference.

Lab grown meat is being developed and will eventually replace our current system of producing meat. It will be cheaper and healthier. it will make enormous changes in our world.

It's going to be huge, but won't be vegetarian, vegan or cruelty free unfortunately. It's definitely got it's place though.
